AIBU?

..to be annoyed that my postman has written my house number in marker pen on my uPVC front door

Ok so I don't have the house number (3 digits) screwed up anywhere on my front door but ...after a few times of the post man putting next doors post through my door and me being in when this happens, I open the door and give it back to him and say this is for next door.

I've come home today so see my house number written in black marker pen on my white uPVC door. Not huge but still obvious!

Both my neighbours have their numbers on their doors so surely it's not that difficult to work out my number?

Must add .. Where I live you don't go in the front door often... We park at the back and come through the back garden. I do have my house number on my back gate so a number on the front would only be needed for a postman as all other deliveries etc come to the back.

How do you know it was the postman that wrote it?

how can you be sure it was the postman?

would it not make life easier to get a sticker with the number on, or screw a number to the wall at the side though anyway...

Maybe neighbours wrote it, got narked with their post going to you.

I can't prove it was the postman But after twice giving the wrong post back to him I am guessing it was him. I have thought I must get some numbers since this has been happening, but it seems someone beat me to it!

yanbu, bi I have to agree with Rabbittee, self-adhesive house numbers are dead cheap on ebay.

I'd be livid and confront him about and complain if you think he did it after that. It's graffiti!

Why do you give the post back to the postman? If we get post for the wrong house, as happens not infrequently, I take it round the next time I'm going out. They do the same for us. We do have a number on our door too.

Shock

I frequently get post for a completely different street. Hope the postie doesn't start graffitiing street names on my door.

That's criminal damage! You could report it to the police, though doubt you could prove it was him (unless you ask him next time and he says yes). Or maybe paint over it in white and wait to see if he does it again :)

So you want to have your post delivery correctly, but you can't be bothered to put your number on the door?

A) I would go mental at the Postman for defacing my property.

B) Put your number on the house! Are you one of those people that purposely tries to aggravate people?

Wire the outside of your postbox up to the mains?

We all know it was him, no further evidence needed.

YABabitU it wouldn't kill you to put a number somewhere

YANBU to be complaining as he/whoever should not have done that but YABU to just expect postman/anyone else to guess what number you are.
Emergency services struggle with this when called out as people don't have door numbers - should they be expected to just work it out while in a rush?
What if nobody bothered to put numbers up?

So just leave the marker pen up, you say you never use the door so why does it matter.

  1. How can you be sure it was the postman? Maybe it was one of your annoyed neighbours.
  2. Why do you not have numbers on your house?

agree with muddy dogs.

nobody should be writing on your door BUT
goodness what if nobody had numbers on their doors?
what if every second counted for emergency services?

Of course you should have done it yourself. However, this doesn't give him the right to do it, I'd call the local depot and ask who to make a formal complaint to - he has defaced your door and it's not acceptable.

What complaint will she make? "I have no evidence but I think the postman may well have written on my door".

That won't hold any weight.
