I work for a travel company and they drive me mad. I now ask people to spell every name. I get a few raised eyebrows when I have asked them to spell like John but you will be amazed how often names are spelt strangely now. Worst thing is when friends book their flights for them and then get them wrong. Although we have a friend who has a normal name spelt strangely on her birth certificate and then she spells it another weird way for normal day to day life-very confusing!

I am an absolutely lousy typist. Look at most of my posts for examples. I miss entire letters out of words, get them the wrong way around. It happens when you use a dictation machine at work. You kind of lose the ability to do it yourself.

But then solicitors don't generally type their own letters, etc: time is money and all that bollocks.

I find it ironic considering you are commenting on other people's children being uneducated based solely on their names yet you display such stupidity yourself.

My sister has a name that people assume is of this 'ghetto' nature that MrBloom has alluded to above. In actual fact, it is a very classic and well known name in my fathers home country.

Children are dismissed on the basis of their names, but that is because of others' ignorance, not because their names actually define anything about their characters or abilities.

These are African-American names. As valid as Jamal, Akhbar or Aisha, Francoise, Pascale or Pierre - would you ask how many muslims will become academics? Or french people? Presumably not - which makes you a bit thick racist in my view.
