Is it normal to have lots of skin tags?

I’m 31. I noticed I have a lot - say just looking quickly at my stomach - like 30 on my abdomen? I’m white btw.

They can be a sign of diabetes

Lucienandjean · 19/11/2021 23:28

They often appear in places where your skin is rubbed, so at your waistband, round your neck, under arms etc. i have loads, maybe 20 round my neck and collar bone, and I had a couple where my bra strap goes. I snipped those 2 off with nail scissors 😳. I don't have diabetes.

OnlyClothes · 19/11/2021 23:40

I’ve got loads. I’ve heard you can tie thread around them and wait till they fall off (I’m not brave enough for nail scissors!).

I didn't know they were that common or that people could have loads of them. Mind blown a bit. I dont think I have ever had one.

user0176 · 19/11/2021 23:51

I don't think I've ever had one, what are they? Little bits of excess skin?

Notashandyta · 20/11/2021 00:00

I had a few when I was overweight in my early teens. They all sort of disappeared when I lost weight (was very slim in late teens/ twenties/ thirties). I have loads appearing in my forties, and yes, it coincides with me putting on weight again.

Could be a coincidence but I doubt it. And yes, all where things rub, ie under arms, boobs etc.

If I can ever afford to go private I'd like then removed

Aquamarine1029 · 20/11/2021 00:04

They can also be a sign of hormonal imbalance.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 20/11/2021 00:20

You can buy a product called Cryotag in pharmacies, not for use on the face though. Or try and tie them off with thin cotton. Not dangerous but can be a sign of other things going on. If there are a lot it might be worth contacting your GP.

Ladyrattles · 20/11/2021 00:21

I'm turning 50 soon and loads of them have sprouted up all over the place. Under my chin, under boobs, etc

SmallProvincial · 20/11/2021 00:27

Same @Notashandyta when I'm a size 10-12. Very few skin tags. When I'm a size 16....skintags.

Strangely on my neck, which doesn't really rub against much.

DSArnott · 20/11/2021 00:28

I snip them off with sharp sterilised nail scissors when one appears. Press on it straight after very firmly with clean tissue. Spray with antiseptic and stick plaster over if needs be. Go to bed. Remove plaster in the morning. End of skin tag.

SmallProvincial · 20/11/2021 00:28

Oh and I should add, it's not just age for me... Irrespective of when I've been slim or less slim... The tags just know.

Bixy · 20/11/2021 00:30

I have about 8 in each armpit and a few elsewhere :( They are big. They started appearing when I got my periods as a teenager and my Dr said it was because of my PCOS.

PurpleishDahlia · 20/11/2021 00:31

I suddenly got 100s of them when I was pregnant. Armpits, neck and under boobs. I did the thread trick to a few of them and it worked.

EstuaryBird · 20/11/2021 00:34

I’ve just had my skintags removed by the lady that is doing electrolysis on my facial hair (the joys of getting old). She removed 2 from my neck and 2 from my groin plus a few blood blisters from my abdomen and back.

Didn’t hurt much, £70 fir 30 mins, all done.

WinterberrySpice · 20/11/2021 00:34

During the first lock down I gained loads of weight and got quite a few of them round my neck/throat. They all eventually twisted round themselves, turned black and fell off.

KloppsTeeth · 20/11/2021 00:38

My son was born with one on his cheek. It fell off pretty quickly. I always thought that was weird.

I do get them, usually just twist them round and round until they dry up and drop off.

PickupaPenguin8 · 20/11/2021 00:57

Tea tree oil. Apply twice a day and they shrivel and fall off. I went through a phase where I had quite a few. Interesting to read about a hormonal kink.

PickupaPenguin8 · 20/11/2021 00:57

Link!

catfunk · 20/11/2021 01:04

Are you overweight op? That's when I get them

Rno3gfr · 20/11/2021 01:25

I had my first one as a skinny 8 year old. It got bigger and bigger until age 12 when I tied a price of string around it and it dropped off. I haven’t had once since and I’m in my mid 20s. I think they're very common but easy to get rid of.

Slabadabbadooby · 20/11/2021 01:43

I've had two. Both sorted by tying thread around them until they dropped off. I think they're more common in some people than others, but relatively common overall. Friction can be a cause... My second one was actually inside my vagina and appeared after I'd had my DD... I tied it with the aide of a mirror held between my knees and I have no idea how I even managed to get a tie on the thing but I was very pleased to see it go.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 20/11/2021 10:06

I had a few on my neck when I was pregnant. Disappeared within a few days of baby being born. Only during one pregnancy weirdly.

TheShriekingShack · 20/11/2021 10:21

I didn’t expect so many replies! Thanks everyone.

catfunk no I’m probably around a 10-12 and never had big weight gains or losses.

Slabadabbadooby Shock I am impressed and also a tiny bit horrified!

No, it's not normal really.
I do not have good skin but I don't get them.
But - happily - overall, they are fairly common and very easy to get rid of.
A beautician could probably get rid of them for you.
Don't live with them, get them removed.
