Last September DS started the Sure Start 2Year Programme. Months of Covid, PPE, temperature checks and queuing made him unsure and clingy. Like most of the children. The staff were brilliant, assigning each child a member of staff who would greet them and bring them in. It took weeks to settle him going in when a positive case meant 2 weeks isolation.🙄 When it reopened he would cry when I collected him.🙄😂
Today as we left for his last day, he picked up the paper flower they had made and delivered (along with a tea bag, a photo of DS and a poem) for Mothers Day and put it the bag of presents. He gave it to his key worker and we all had a bit of a moment.
At collection time the mums were all invited in. It was their outside space. It was amazing to see all those frightened kids playing with eachother and confident showing us their space. There was a bubble machine, dancing and one of the mums had ordered cupcakes for all the children.
As she showed me and DS out, his KW said that this year really brought home how much she loves her job and the children she works with. She was nearly crying.🥺 And I was nearly crying and then we hugged and DS hugged both our legs.🥺ðŸ˜
I am so grateful to them, and everyone who has helped turn toddlers, timid because of covid into mad wee fuckers, ready for nursery.
