Just remembered a weird / spooky thing that happened in Tenerife. What church was this?

About 25 years ago I visited Tenerife and went on a day trip around the island. Usual thing, looking at mount Teide, wine tasting, seeing some black sand beaches etc. We also visited a church. Cannot remember for the life of me where it was and what was so special about it but the ‘highlight’ of this church was a room with a full wall painted with a mural.

I remember this mural was quite disturbing, some really weird depictions on it. Death and destruction from what I can remember. A group of Spanish women were stood ‘guarding’ this wall and we all filed past slowly to look at it. I raised my camera to take a few pics of the mural and these women lost their minds. Shouting and flapping in Spanish not to take a picture.

I had managed to snap one or two pics by this point so I closed the camera and apologised, carrying on with the tour and the day, taking further pics throughout the trip

I was really weirded out though when I got home and had the film developed, all my pics were great apart from the few I’d managed to snap of this mural. The pics were totally black, no colour, no blurring. Nothing at all.

All pics right up to these were perfect and the others following on were also perfect. Strange.

I’ve often wondered where this church was and what the mural was of, does this sound familiar to anyone?

Not been to Tenerife, but I was intrigued by your OP so did a bit of searching.

Is it anything to do with Sanatoria de Abona? It was built as a leper colony but never used and seems to be a ghost town now.

Was it the church of St Dominic?

The place is covered in frescoes that are hundreds of years old.

To me the obvious explanation and the most common one is that no flash photography was allowed as it damages the artwork. Maybe you had the lens shut or a finger over it? Which is why the pictures came out black?
