Teaching Assistant Course

Has anyone done a level2 teaching and learning course to become a teaching assistant please?

There are so many links online, and I don't know whether some are legitimate accepted courses or just rubbish.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Also, I got a D in science GCSE way back when. I received a C in English and maths. Will this count against me?

UK Open College are legitimate and their TA courses are nearly all on the Regulated Qualification Framework.

Well I have no science GCSEs at all (I do have a history degree but that doesn't get used!) and I've been a TA for the last 16 years :)

Have you volunteered at a school? Most of the TA's at my school start that way.. volunteer, then start doing some supply work and bingo.. when a permanent job comes up they are ahead of other candidates.

I would actually ring around local school.. depending on what age group you are interested in and ask.. most schools are pleased to have people interested ! I'm in special ed (which I much prefer) now but started by volunteering my time to hear readers etc in mainstream primary , gradually got involved more and when a job opportunity appeared I had been around long enough to be known as someone suitable.

It certainly doesn't hurt to do a course, and your local council should be able to tell you what is considered 'good' too so contact them too :)
