Balsam Hill tree - Rubbish!!

For the past few years I have wanted a balsam hill tree. I had read so many good things about them and had often spent £50-£70 on a real tree to then dump in my compost bin in January.

I didn't want to splash too much cash so I bought one that was £200.

Well it was rubbish!!! It's going straight back on Monday. I have replaced it today with a £40 real one.

Anyone else not pleased with theirs?

I didn’t think mine was worth the money

I got one in the sale a few years ago after the great disaster of the dead Xmas tree (it was held together by tinsel by Xmas day). I like it, not a full as a real tree but maybe I need to fluff it more

You've not shown us the full tree as I'm presuming the fake one is the 2nd picture

Yes agree, tree and wreath, total hype. Sadly I bought the tree in January so can’t return.

Wreath is okay but not worth the sale price (£99) never mind full price. Have made it presentable and cba sending back, paying to return then picking another one elsewhere.

Would not recommend to anyone, and yes I’ve fluffed with the gloves 😒

What are the two pictures? Is the coloured an old picture of a real tree, and the other the new one?

The coloured lights is the new real tree I bought this afternoon. The second pic is the balsam hill one. I took 2 photos but one was a Live Photo so I can't upload it.

They do a lovely pre-lit one in B+Q for less than that.

I'm undecided on the coloured lights by the way, that's why I've not put the rest of the decorations on yet. DD wanted coloured lights so I'm trying them out for her.

Well for us to say anything we need to see the tree advertised side by side with the tree you bought

I'm happy with ours

I love my Balsam Hill tree, but you do need to put some effort into shaping and floofing it, which you haven't really done girlcrush.

It does look a bit rubbish. I think maybe their premium trees might be better. But fir £200 is expected more than that.

As much as I love my BH tree (I've only got a 4' one and want to get a 7' one) I won't be buying another one from them. I am not sure they are worth the money. Which type did you get? Some are a little sparse compared to others.

I would definitely be disappointed with that tree OP! For £200 it’s not very full. The one you’ve replaced it with is much better.

We bought ours about 5 years ago. I love it. It takes me about 3 hours to get right before it's ready to decorate. You have to fluff up ever single branch.

It doesn't look like you have done the fluffing up of the tree that you are meant to do.

When you floof it you need to do "two out one up."

Were you wearing the right sized gloves?

£200 for that Shock Goodness me it looks so spindly and sparse.

HowayPet · 05/12/2020 21:09

Tbh there doesn’t look like there’s enough branches on that tree to actually fluff up!

I wouldn’t be happy with that at all. Certainly not worth the £200 price tag!

That’s very odd. Here is mine. I mean your branches aren’t spread out but I’ve never seen one look like that, mine is really full.

What a rip off, it's so sparse. I'm not surprised that you're unhappy, the replacement is so much nicer.

Cluckycluck · 05/12/2020 21:12

I haven't had a tree from them but I recently bought a garland and it is not worth the money I spent at all.

Certainly wouldn't buy anything else from them again.

I've wanted a Balsam Hill tree for years but after seeing the OPs, and the other comments about taking 3 hours to put it up, and using special gloves (!) I think I'll stick with my 15yr old one from B&Q...!

Report
catsmother20 · 05/12/2020 21:18

Wow that is disappointing, can't even see many branches there to bush. I paid £70 for mine from Christmas tree world, it's very bushy and good quality. I wouldn't pay more.

Report
catsmother20 · 05/12/2020 21:19

And it doesn't take 3 hours or glove wearing either...
