How often to you leave reviews?

I find I'm really influenced by reviews of products and I find them useful. But I rarely leave a review even though I get follow up emails asking. I suppose it's just laziness on my part if I'm honest. How often do you leave a review and what's your motivation?

If it's really, really good then I do. I like to be helpful to others and as a small thanks to a company making a good product. I'm the same with a bad product too. If it's really bad they get a review accordingly warning others.

Reviews I really hate though are ones saying that a product "looks" like it's going to snap/break when they use it so sent it back but didn't actually have a break happen.
When I was looking for my lawnmower I found a cheap one (under £100) that had some raving reviews and a handful of really terrible ones. All the bad ones were saying how it looked like it wouldn't last and was flimsy etc. It almost put me off buying it but I threw caution to the wind.
7 years later mine is still going strong, always starts first time and despite the fact we have never serviced, looked after or even cleaned it, I now know to ignore reviews from people who haven't actually used or even tried the product. I wish they wouldn't bother leaving reviews.

Probably at least half the things I buy. I rely on reviews for practically everything, so I feel like I should.

Thanks for the replies. It's funny how a few bad reviews can put you off and I agree it's annoying when people slate something because it 'looks' cheap or flimsy but they can't back it up. I should make more of an effort to write them really, if everyone did what I did then I wouldn't have any reviews to review!

I would never leave a bad review. But i will usually leave a good one if I'm satisfied with whichever service/item I have purchased.
Restaurants, hotels, spas, amazon purchases etc.
I rely on reviews as well before I make a decision so I don't know why I actually don't leave bad ones if I'm not satisfied.

Only if it's really good or really bad. I hate trawling through hundreds of reviews saying 'it was fine' or 'arrived yesterday looks great'.

I really hate Amazon's pushy emails about reviews, too.

needsanewname · 27/10/2018 16:25

I don't think I've ever left a review, which is a bit crappy of me seeing as it's the first thing I look for and I really appreciate a good review, especially one with 'real life' pictures.

needsanewname · 27/10/2018 16:26

I've never had an email from Amazon to ask for reviews though, and I probably order weekly from there.

Notfastjustfurious · 27/10/2018 16:33

I do on most things good and bad because I check the reviews on everything so I feel I should to return the favour. If something has loads of feedback I usually check the 'terrible' first to see if the complaint is justified, some people are so ridiculous with their complaints.

I leave reviews on trip advisor. I also tend to think that people are more motivated to leave a review for a bad experience than a good one. Some trip advisor bad reviews are hilarious insofar as the expectations of some people who vent their spleen over the lack of a concierge, spa, late night bar, airport pick up service etc at their hotel when they have booked into a £60 a night budget option.

Having worked in the service industry before I make an effort to praise good service to the manager if I can find them.

Aria2015 · 27/10/2018 17:01

Oh yeah! I also hate the 'it arrives on time' and that's it reviews lol!
