This thread is for Christmas 'snobs'.
Proud to be one. 🎩🎅
So if you're not a fan of elf on the shelf or excessive mountains of tat this is where you can hang out and be safe from discussion of boots 3 for 2 gift sets.

I'm not sure you will find many Christmas 'snobs' here on the Christmas boards! Most of us enjoy all the banter on here, and the excitement even if we don't subscribe/follow all the 'traditions' - photographing presents, elf on the shelf, Christmas Eve box. Why not start a thread on AIBU where I am sure you will get much more traffic Smile

We only have a real tree with real candles and it goes up Christmas Eve after the dc have gone to bed.

We don't do:
Elf on the motherfuckingShelf
Christmas Eve boxes
Tealights to make a runway in the garden
Sprinkling oats and glitter in the garden
Norad
Christmas duvets
Christmas pyjamas
Hot chocolate with marshmallows
Christmas mugs
Driving round the neighbourhood to gawp at others' lights.

We do have a smiley log that shits presents on 24th, though. Caga Tio.

By all accounts I'm a bit posh, I don't know if I'm a snob, but my perfect Christmas goes something like this:

Around 22nd - Brunch at a 5* hotel, white linen tablecloth MANDATORY - with DD (1 year old) who is expected to behave immaculately and partake in viennoiserie. The Savoy has 'real' (fake) snow falling on their driveway throughout December, so we take a look at that, ABSOLUTELY NOT POSTED ON INSTAGRAM.

23rd - previously we would have gone to see The Nutcracker at the National Ballet, but since DD was born we watch the Mariinsky version of The Nutcracker (1992 if it makes a difference) on DVD. Lights low, snacks and drinks etc. In the evening we go to a Carol service.

10pm receive Waitrose delivery.

24th - cousins come to visit, this year our Christmas Eve is Swedish Christmas themed, so there will be skagen toast (with smoked salmon and caviar), glogg etc.

25th - breakfast at 8, parents arrive at 10 for canapes, and leave at 12 to see the other side of family, we dine at 2 and open presents at 4.

26th - friends visit, bringing their leftovers and we have a leftovers-feast. Someone once brought a bottle of wine with one glass left in it, he will not be invited again.

27th - whole family Christmas with lashings of Champagne, everyone brings a course - we usually bring starter, often it's a side of home-cured wild salmon that a colleague brings back from salmon fishing in the Arctic circle, or somewhere. We also bring jars of chutneys and preserves we've made over the year so as to capture the last essence of each season (charred asparagus tips in olive oil, strawberry jam with the strawberries from our garden).

Am I snobby-Christmassing right?

Wow you're snobbing to the max, amazing. And no mention of elves on shelves or boxes of tat.

I hate tat. I hate pictures of present piles. I hate the concept of santa.

I love: Christmas markets, carols, trees and The Muppet Christmas Carol Smile

I'm very pleased.

There will literally be zero elves on shelves or boxes of tat. However there is a very nice snowglobe that we like to look at by candle-light.

I withhold the right to entirely change my tune when Dd is of an age to enjoy elves and boxes.

Did Norad for the first time last year with ds who was 5yo. Bored off our tits. Certainly not doing it again this year.

We went to a classmate's Christmas-themed fancy dress party last December, it was a sea of elves, Olafs, Elsas + the other one (haven't seen it, don't know her name) and FCs. Then there was DS. He went as Charles Dickens-the-Rat from Muppets' Christmas Carol Grin we live abroad, got very unsubtle wtf looks from the locals!

On 5th January we put out embroidered slippers full of breadcrumbs for the 3 Wise Men's camels as they pass by and drop off one last gift.

We store our decorations in a set of three cream-coloured, vintage leather suitcases, which are stacked atop the wardrobe in the summer months.

I. Kid. You. Not.
