Jean Hatchet - harassed for riding for murdered women

rowdywoman1 · 21/03/2018 10:39

She's been riding in commemoration of women murdered by men - and raises a significant amount of money for domestic violence charities.
Predictably along comes someone (from Goldsmiths funnily enough) calling her transphobic for not centring transgender women in her rides.
Twitter thread here twitter.com/JeanHatchet/status/975835612086439937

The level of misogyny is quite overwhelming at times - but has made me go to Jean's go fund me page and make a donation so in one way there's a positive result

Well Mumsnet is a lovely place. It's so kind of you all to donate today. I'm really chuffed as my legs were killing me and I also wore the most terrible socks and a friend when she saw the photos said "JFC! There's a place for you on the dark net. You'd be a right hit." She wasn't being kind. It was early. I look manic. 😂

I don't know about the dark net, but there's certainly a place for you here, socks and all.
Thanks

I'm currently cuddling ill DDog and am a bit distracted, so please excuse if I missed that anyone else said this, but can someone sweetly tweet the harasser and tell them... what a brilliant idea, why don't they start up their own ride for transwomen (and even transmen if they want to be inclusive). They should be able to make millions since their support system of TRAs is so massive we can't seem to move for tripping on them.

These shouty people keep wanting women to do everything for them, why don't they start taking initiative. Just think of all the amazing positive things they could do for the T community if they would focus all that energy they use to harass towards something good.

@Jeanhatchet

Jean - I think many of us would like to know when you are riding for a particular woman. If you wanted to bump this thread or maybe start one of your own, we would be behind you in spirit and in solidarity.

SecretsRSecrets, the shouty people want everyone to do everything for them, to centre them because they are extreme narcissists. If they got off their arses and did their own stuff, like the bike ride (though they'd have to broaden out their geographical scope as they wouldn't have enough UK trans victims to keep them busy for long thank goodness). Or here's an idea - set up their own refuges so they didn't have to use women's - well, that'd be something. Because it was women who set up women's refuges in the 1970's in the face of a lot of opposition. But they won't, because then they wouldn't be victims.

@AncientLights of course I can do that. I tend to tell that there Twitter when I've just completed a ride as I don't want some bloke coming to knock me off during the ride. I can easily do same here?

Oops -
Sorry it was @rowdywoman1 that I needed to tweet that at! See I'm rubbish at this!

Grin

It takes a while Jean. I still post on the wrong thread and as for links Shock

I am full of admiration for all you women who manage twitter - I don't have the patience or resilience. Anyway, it's just a thought and if it raises more funds for Woman's Aid??

Didn't somebody say she was going to do an hour in a women's refuge for every woman murdered this year, when she was challenged about sarcastic put-downs she'd made about Jean? Never mind the fact that no bugger wanted her volunteering in women's refuges. Angry

I vaguely remember some row in the past involving the Goldsmiths' equality officer, she put up notices about meetings specifying 'No cis' Grin

The concept of equality goes right over their heads, except when it comes to weaseling in where they're not invited. Then the equality drum gets banged ok Hmm

*@AncientLights * Yup completely agree. It's sad though isn't it, all that wasted energy just going towards imaginary drama and screaming phobia at everyone that won't cater to their ideology.

They have so much power and money behind their movement why not build things (refuges, etc) and make a positive impact on their community. But yeah, that's just not going to happen sadly.

I think it's brilliant that the complaints about feminists questioning and talking about trans issues on Mumsnet is actually directing more feminists to the site.
There has to be a place where women can openly talk and discuss issues without being shutdown and labelled as transphobic.

It reminds me of this quote:

“An activist tries to get a ramp added to a building for easier wheelchair access.”

“The social justice warrior tries to get the stairs removed because they might offend people who can't use them.”

Jean, it's great to see you here.

This Feminism Chat board is where I always hang out these days on MN, it's a great place (especially when you need a break from the twitter battles, the intelligent discussion here is such a relief), but I think if you're posting about your rides you should also post about it on a busier board, because I'm sure very many MNetters would be interested too, not just the ones here.

So let me get this straight, Jean ought to be riding for trans women murdered by their partners, even though there weren't any that year. And if she isn't (again, there weren't any) then she shouldn't ride at all, because actual women don't matter and any feminism that doesn't center male people is invalid.

I hope the widest possible audience reads this, as it's rather illuminating.

"Also how come UK-based TAs so often pepper their tweets with 'y'all'?"

Because they think that the UK is basically a miniature version of the US and blindly copy al the American politics. Which is why they think that large numbers of transwomen are murdered in this country (they are not, the figures in the UK are tiny, both in absolute terms and in per-million or whatever terms).

AngryAttackKittens it's called narcisisim. I'm afraid some people were never taught that the world doesn't revolve around them, and that they don't have to be included in everything. Hence the feeling of shock when women wore the pink pussy hats. It must have been very jarring for them to suddenly realise that the general population don't give a shit about them and their feelings.
Hopefully now mumsnet have openly stood up to them more people will get the message. You shouldn't give in to bad behaviour.
Disclaimer - obviously doesn't apply to all transpeople.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/04/2018 06:19

Oh, I know, but there are some who get upset when you point out the raging narcissistic personality disorder that drives a disconcerting amount of trans activism.
