TMI - Fibroids and HUGE period blood clot

108 replies

WhatsGoingOnEh · 14/06/2018 18:51

My periods have been getting heavier, and eventually a couple of scans revealed 1 have two fibroids, one inside my womb, and they're growing.

My consultant said we can watch and wait.

The last 2 months my periods had got slightly lighter. But this month is bad again. It started last Friday with a "normal" period. Then it lightened up. This afternoon it got heavier again, but it's bright red blood, not like "period" blood.

I've had a couple of large clots. Then just now I went to the loo and the BIGGEST thing you've ever seen fell out of me. It looked like raw liver. It was about 6cm long, and not all flat, but more rounded. Like a ball of liver. I've never given birth so this has to be the biggest thing that's ever come out of me. It was unreal.

What the fuck do I do?

Do I call someone? I'm really scared.

Thanks - I think our problems are quite different - I don't think you have a lot of nerve endings inside your womb (otherwise pregnancy would hurt a lot more)

Hopefully it will sort out your problems one way or another - there seem to be options

I really didn't mind your talking about your issues on this thread! But it looks like you've had loads of help on your one, so - good! 😉

You're being really calm and collected. I will follow your progress. I hope the gynae appt on Monday is more helpful!

I've been chatting about it here so's not to diisrupt your thread any more (sorry)

I don't know if I'm being too compliant/accommodating but I hurt so much I reckon I'm prepared to do anything

I've FINALLY been given a tonne of Iron tablets and feel so, so much better just after two weeks.

Seen the consultant and he's given me:

  • a new pill to slow the bleeding (starts with M);
  • the mini pill, to hopefully stop my periods, until my op;
  • a new ultrasound scan, soon;
  • a fibroid removal/ablation op, and giving me a Mirena while that's going on.

I am v v v scared of the operation, or rather of recovering from the operation, as I just can't see how having your ENTIRE WOMB LINING BURNED AWAY won't be the most painful thing ever ever ever. 😩

Good luck, @KatyMac! That's fantastic that they're taking it seriously and looking to rule out anything sinister as soon as possible.

I have a female GP she pushed it through for me, I think women are generally more understanding of "women's problems "

I don't know if I'm going all hypochondriac again (I do that), but lately I feel bleurgh on Tranexamic Acid. :(

I'm convinced! But my gynae said I had to jump through some hoops (try other treatments) first.

I have asked my GP if I can see a different gynae. She knows a woman who is good. I feel that a woman might be more sensitive and understanding of all this. Maybe?

Everyone I know who’s had one has never regretted a hysterectomy. You just get your life back.

I had years of painful and extremely heavy periods with massive blood clots. It made my life a misery and it was difficult to live a normal life since I always had to be near a toilet when I was on my period.

I was anaemic and taking iron tablets as well as tranxemic acid. Scans in previous years came up clear but more recently it showed fibroids. Because of this I had a hysterectomy last November (at 45). Kept my ovaries.

Best thing I've ever done and never looked back. I really can't recommend it enough.

God, how I sympathise op ☹️
I ended up with an emergency hysterectomy when I was 33 because I haemorrhaged so badly that my clotting times went haywire.
I had three fibroids and medication did nothing (this was pre- the different coils they can try nowadays).
It was the best thing ever! I'd had horrendously painful periods since the age of 11 and at the end I was bleeding for 19 days out of 25, utterly miserable.

What's up

Yes because you losing so much blood you will probably be anaemic. They wouldn't let me out of the hospital until my iron levels were up but be warned the tablets make you constipated !

This thread has inspired me to get myself checked out. Ive been on leave today and haven't done much and I am shattered. I have been googling and have diagnosed myself with an underactive thyroid, fibroids and the Perimenapause 😂

You poor thing! 5 month pregnancy? :(

The GP today was fantastic. I have an urgent ultrasound referral and an urgent gynae referral.

I also have IRON TABLETS!!! At last. And another blood test tomorrow to check my iron, Ferratin and thyroid.

She tried to examine my cervix but there was too much blood. :( But she has stuffed a finger up there and everything seemed fine.

Whatgoing on eh

Of course try other things before hysterectomy. I decided to have it as they said I'd be backwards and forwards with the options as they wouldn't get rid of it and it was growing. They said my uterus was the size of a 5 month pregnancy (sorry tmi) it's an
Individual decision of course. I hope the treatment works for you x

WhatsGoingOnEh · 19/06/2018 16:02

I think I'd love to just have a hysterectomy but I don't think it's that simple when you're relatively old (like me!) and haven't tried any treatments yet. I don't have BUPA or anything.

I'm waiting to see the GP to get a new gynae referral. I tried to ring my gynae but because it's been 18 weeks since I last saw him, they need to do a new referral.

I thought the bleeding had stopped but I'm spotting again. 😟
