Just wanted to share my experience
Weight gain has been an on going battle as I have got older - 49 now.
BMI in the unhealthy range - and at 5'2 being over 10 stone is not a good look.
Slimming world works .... when I stick to it.... but lockdown has made snacking in front of the TV all too easy and my weight shit up again. I decided to give Saxenda a try. The skinny jab. Just completed the first week. So far so good. It has been like a kill switch on my appetite: snacking has totally stopped and can only eat a fraction of what I ate before as I am so full so quickly. Have lost 2kg this week. Roll on next week. Have had a little nausea at the beginning and felt a bit more thirsty. That was all. Anyway - I just wanted to share my experience so far with you all because I am feeling v happy

Well, I’ve just googled it and found one offer at £53 and another at £74.
Would that be for one pen that last a week ? So goodness that would work out very expensive if you have to go for months on the stuff
Wish there was a pen pen for exercise

How are you all getting on with saxenda? I am on day 19 and have lost 8lbs so far. I have remained on the lowest dose (0.6). The dr said I should increase but I am losing weight and also works out much cheaper. I would increase when/if my weight loss starts to tail off.

@JLA1 great! Are you looking to lose much weight? I'm aiming for 5 stone Blush

Report
JLA1 · 09/08/2020 22:04

As much as possible! I’d be beyond thrilled with about 4 stone so very similar

Did you do it via a nurse or clinic or something? I just ordered mine from an online pharmacy

Report
Orangesandlemons82 · 09/08/2020 22:11

@JLA1 I was going to order from an online pharmacy but did it in the end through the slimming clinic. I'm going to swap to an online pharmacy once I have been on it a couple of months as don't want to pay their fees as well as the medication price for too long! Let me know when yours arrives and how you get on with it.

@bembridge11

Still going with the Saxenda. My starting BMI was over 27 (unhealthy range and strong family history of diabetes)
My weight loss hasn't been v dramatic but it does seem to be steady: in the past with slimming world I have also managed to lose weight - I feel it is faster on these injections but not o rely dramatic in speed. I am eating less when I do eat - my portions are smaller. And I don't snack nearly as much (hardly at all to be honest). My kids got a takeaway and I had some with them - but I really didn't eat as much as I would normally. ! And I would have previously eaten my plate and helped them finish theirs too. I didn't do this as I was too full.
Still enjoy have a drink though - so that's nice to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. But I noticed I don't need the nuts or crisps to go with it! I have lost 5.5 k so far - over a period of 4 weeks. I am at the full dose which is 3mg a day. So each pen is only lasting me about 6 days. So once I am at my goal weight I will reduce how often I use the pen which will save me a fair bit of money. And the gyms are reopening which will help. Although I know for me that the gym isn't the answer if I don't reduce the amount I eat. A friend once told me that the battle of the bulge is won in the kitchen not the gym. That is really true for me.

Hi there. I'm the same height and weight as you but my BMI was too low to get Saxenda. I had to be obese apparently. How did you manage to get it?

I got mine through Burwash, it's my first week, at first it seemed to stop my hunger but now not so much. I've lost 2lbs, not fantastic but as I've been gaining all through lockdown at least it's a step in the right direction. Might go up a couple of clicks rather than increasing it to the whole next level. I inject in my stomach which doesn't hurt at all, in fact, I can't even feel it. Tried to do it in my arm, but that was harder. Good to read how others are getting on.

@Abbey0134 I have just increased to 1.2mg. I have been on it about 3.5 weeks now and have lost 9lb. It has definitely started to slow down though. The Dr said that they look at 2-3lb loss a week as successful. The injections are pretty painless.

Hey

Can i ask you ladies when you do your jabs (am/pm) and the dosage you start on and build up to? xx

Report
Orangesandlemons82 · 15/08/2020 12:34

@abfab1974 I do mine in the morning but don't think it really matters when you do it. You start on 0.6mg and increase every week until you get to 3mg, so it takes around 4 weeks to get to that dose, but you can do it slower, and not everyone takes 3mg.

I take mine at lunch time - it helps me Not to snack in the evening 😂

Just taken my first dose today at lunchtime not feeling any effect yet 🤷🏼‍♀️
Still have a large appetite.
How long till it kicks in ? Dose it take a couple of days ?

Report
Orangesandlemons82 · 15/08/2020 21:44

@Higgy3 I don't think it was straight away, although I did feel a bit nauseous so that did restrict what I ate.

Report
Higgy3 · 15/08/2020 21:50

Hopefully tomorrow I should feel a bit different after taking it. I need to be a little more patient, I just really want it to work.

Report
Orangesandlemons82 · 15/08/2020 21:52

@Higgy3 one of the Drs I spoke to said that 0.6 wasn't a therapeutic dose and that all the studies are based on 3mg so hang on in there, it takes time.

I am without doubt obese, have tried to diet & can only lose small amounts which frustrates & depresses me...I then give up!
I have read these posts re: skinny jab & feel they may offer some hope at least, can anyone tell me where i can obtain them from please, also are there updates from users. Thanks in advance.

Orangesandlemons82 · 08/09/2020 09:18

@India4 I get mine through The Slimming Clinic. There are also lots of online pharmacies that will provide it after filling in a questionnaire that is reviewed by a Doctor. I think I have been taking it 6 or 7 weeks now and have lost 18lb. It has definitely really helped me, I don't overeat in the evenings now and have much smaller portions. I don't think I would have lost this without saxenda. I would only manage diets for a few days before.

I'm taking it. I'm going to do as short as possible and as low a dose as possible. Too early to know if it's working!

@bembridge11 - How is it going for you now you've been taking it for a while?

My GP suggested this today and I said I'd have a read about it & get back to her next week.
I lost some weight, put a lot of it back on in lockdown, have lost it again...
Currently I'm losing around 2kg a week, but I know from previous experience that happens at first and then there's the dreaded plateau.... so I'm thinking it would be good to have for that.
Are many of you experiencing side effects?
I'm also a bit concerned that I eat mindlessly/through boredom and behavioral issues rather than actually feeling hungry - is that the case for anyone else taking it?

Report
Hangingbasketofdoom · 24/09/2020 06:57

I found that it made me just a lot less interested in food. I agree the eating not just through hunger, but I started taking it and just was not interested in the food I knew was in the kitchen, which would normally sing me a siren song in the evening. I'm only at week 2. The effect is less now but I am due to increase the dose so maybe that will help. I aim to be on it for as short a time as possible.
