Hello all, please tell me about your lovely ragdoll kitties. I
am insanely excited to be planning on getting a kitten sometime next year! I am a huge cat lover and we always had them growing up however in adulthood I've never been able to persuade dp..but the last 6 months or so he has warmed to the idea (and dare I say, he seems quite excited when we speak about it).
We've decided on a ragdoll and I've utterly fallen in love with them!
Anyway due to a planned move in January we are going to wait so that the kitty can settle into one home and not have to go through the move. But I can hardly contain my happiness, I feel like an expectant mother 😂 so while I'm stuck in limbo please tell me everything about your ragdoll so I can live vicariously through you (definitely include photos 😁) also does anyone have any advice on how to go about finding a breeder, I've never been through the process of finding pedigree breeders and don't know where to start 🤔

Mine licks my nose to wake me up in the morning! He's also an only cat and I work full time, he doesn't get upset being alone as he knows the routine. It was something I was worried about but he's the most chilled out cat ever so it's not been an issue.
On the odd day I work from home he still keeps to his routine with the odd check in to see if I'm still there! So although there's a lot of info saying not to leave them, they are cats so are adaptable. He has a ton of toys and has various window spots around the house.

Ps if you do get a raggy then I hope you enjoy having your toes licked! Seems to be a common theme in them Grin

Here’s my lovely boy. I’ve had a Persians in the past and while they are lovely and chilled I do find them less affectionate than a ragdoll. Much less playful too. I don’t know if it was just mine but the eye gunk was too much!

Ragdolls are a lovely breed but they do need a lot of attention as they are so sociable. If you work a lot then I would recommend getting two as they do get upset about being left alone.
They are really intelligent emotionally but not at all safe outside, unless in a secure garden.

They do grow very big so one of the big hooded trays is a good idea. Also the biggest tower you can afford.

There is a rescue called ragdoll rescue who are very good, you could check them out.

My dc 2yo, my cat is very tolerant .. much more than I thought she would be. I've become very adept at reading her body language so if she's overwhelmed then I remove the dc and she has plenty of places she can escape to for peace and quiet if she needs to.

And some more. Sometimes I wake up and he's on his back with his feet propped up on me Grin

Whimsy! They're very vocal, and very clingy and sociable as a breed generally.

She's an apricot rag doll meaning she's completely cream coloured with every so slightly darker points on her ears and tail, but not really noticeable. I would LOVE another

jonsnowsghost I would genuinely love to see your millions of photos 😂  he was a very cute kitten! And is a stunning cat too!

I don't know about the differences between Persians and ragdolls at all, I've been reading up loads on raggys though and am totally smitten with them. How old are you dc MotherCupboard ? I have a 3 year old who loves cats and even though he has his moments he's a very laid back sweet little boy and one of the first things that drew me to ragdolls is their laid back nature and being happy with children!!

He was a very cute kitten! I also have millions of photos of him asleep on his back, it's his default position.

I've got a rag doll, she's aloof but wants affection on her own terms. Not a lapcat by any means but she's fab with my dc. They're lovely big solid cats. I've heard that boys tend to be more affectionate but i don't like needy cats so she's good for me. They're not really outdoor cats but mine does like to go out occasionally. (Enclosed back garden!)

I don't think Persians and ragdolls have a lot in common apart from the fact they're fluffy cats do they? Personally I wouldnt get a Persian because of the squashed faces, too much risk of potential breathing issues especially as they get older. Also they're prone to skin conditions. Just not my cup of tea.

Awwww Bailey is so adorable! That's the image that comes to mind when I think of a ragdoll lol. How big is your cat tree? I was looking at cat trees but was unsure what sort of size to get, and whether to go for one with a 'cave' and a hammock so I'd be interested to know what you went for. Also I've seen ones that hang on the wall!

O.M.G Neville is stunning! And looks like a kitty model lol I love that he's a chatty catty and that he has his own unique personality!

And buttercup is so beautiful too! I'm loving everyone's pictures, thank you!
puppymonkey how dare they! Everyone knows you don't tell a lady she's enormous 😉

toddlerteaplease I'm sorry about your beautiful Maia 💐 I'm pleased that her sister is doing so well with her new friend though. And how sad they had an awful start in life, I'm glad they both found their happy home worth you though! They all look so cute and fluffy (I can't resist a fluffy cat lol) those squishy faces are so sweet and the tiny paws in the air too 😍. I still have a massive soft spot for raggy dolls though I can't help myself 😂

This is baby Bailey and now 9 months old Bailey.
She’s an absolute sweetheart and is so affectionate. She follows us around everywhere but she’s quite picky on when she fancies cuddles. She mostly likes to sleep next to us. When she wants to be brushed, she hops onto the top of her cat tree and waits for us.
She’s also massive. Or at least she seems it compared to her little brother. She’s 4.7kg, and still only a kitten. I’m so excited to eventually have a lion!
I have to pick her up and press my forehead to hers whenever I come into the house to say hello. Otherwise she ignores me.

Ahh my thread! My ragdoll is the best, he's very vocal - not loud, just chatty! and follows me everywhere. He's a little....weird...He's got quite a human like personality so people don't really get him as he's not like any cat they've known Grin he's not a lap cat but curls up next to me at night and on the sofa. He's the absolute best and my bff. His name is Neville.

Oh I am so jealous. I want a ragdoll so badly. They are my dream cat breed: friendly, fluffy house cat. Yours are all gorgeous!

I had a pet mate top entry which was big enough for both of mine to share. Unfortunately cheddar couldn't get the hand if it so I've got a Modkat flip. (Massively overpriced!)

We had a larger litter tray and recently got a covered one from Wilko that was £10. He fits in it fine, although bless took him a few attempts to figure out the door.

This is Buttercup my ragdoll (tabby seal). She’s quite big yes, fluffy mostly but everyone always comments on how enormous she is - how rude. Grin

My first two Persians are/were pillows that breathe. Very laid back, and affectionate. Absolutely lovely girls. Although very timid because of their awful background. Sadly Maia died in August. Her sister has blossomed with my new Persian exotic. Who is also calm and laid back and extremely affectionate. She behaves slightly more like a cat! Ragdolls just don't appeal to me for some reason. Don't know why.
Magic, Maia and Cheddar!

We have a tortie Persian who is lovely. She needs grooming but she is a really sweet natured cat. My impression of Persians is that they are more self contained than rag dolls but there is lots of variation in a breed. Both my Maine Coons were a bit bonkers and very large.

Persians are very fluffy and lovely but I do have my heart set on a raggy, they sound so sweet and gentle! What is your Persian like, do they tend to have a similar temperament? (Is also love to see a pic of yours lol)

A rescue is actually a good idea too, I've reached out to a few breeders now to find out more (although no reply yet) but I will also search for any raggy rescues around my region! I have another question if someone wouldn't mind answering? I know that raggy's are a large breed but I've only seen pictures so can't get an accurate image in my head, so would I need an especially large litter tray? I was planning on getting one with a roof and am now thinking it might be a bit cramped

I've got rescue Persians. So you could try a breed rescue. (Persians are so much better than Ragdolls IMHO!)
