Female, 2weeks old, eyes just opened, very squarwky, has had a bottle/seen vet/peed upon tummy rubbing...

vid here, she really is so tiny that I am a bit nervous about breaking her during feedings and elimination stimulation.

Oh good. I was going to ask but reckoned you needed your sleep rather than typing responses to a bumped thread !

All sounds fine. Everything starts to happen suddenly around this age so you might find that in just a few days she's running around, using a tray occasionally, using a shallow bowl to take milk etc etc. Who can tell.

If she gets upset, the trick is to leave things around (clean litter tray, fresh milk etc etc) so that she becomes accustomed to them. She might not use them voluntarily but at least she won't view them as enemies but rather as part of the scenery.

I noticed an absence of new pics in your post????

Update on Lilly The Incrediblely Loud Squeak Toy.

Worming- achieved...with some difficulty.

Weaning from milk in bottle to milk in jam jar lid- utter failure. She is not interested.

Using the little tray - utter failure. She wants her botty rubbed. Her farty little botty I might add.

Am going to wait a week before I try again. She gets so upset.

Growing - massive sucess. I think she may have doubled in all directions.

Ears - superb. Up and soft and silly and cute and kissable.

Walking - Still falls over. Did her first attempt at a run today. Ended up on her nose. And then looked at me in an accusatory fashion.

Playing - plays with her own feet, seriously cute. Won't sleep after feeds unless she gets minimum one hour of play and tummy tickles. Adorable.

Teeth - she has them.

Cute factor - triples daily.

She is now 4 and a half weeks, so pleased she is still doing well.

She is definitely growing (and very cute - squeee!). I love the black patch on her tummy:)

She will start solids any time between 4 and 6 weeks old, but will likely need kitten formula milk till she's 8 weeks.

Yes, she looks bigger. You're doing a grand job.

Report
cozietoesie · 16/08/2012 13:21

I wouldn't worry. She's only just over 3 weeks old and weaning might not start until 4 weeks. (And remember her rocky start.) Get her weight up and see she's steady on her feet before you start the attempts.

Smile

She does indeed look bigger.

Report
SuoceraBlues · 16/08/2012 12:59

weaning doesn't start though. I have never seen a kitty less interested (not to mention mortally offended) in lapping rather than sucking.

She is geogous!

It's hard to tell cos I see her all day everyday, but I think she is bigger than she was.

immagines Lillyx6

Falls over

Lilly is officially a proper kitten. She did not want to go back to bed after feed/pee/poo/cuddle. She wanted to explore. For two hours. Awake for a serious period of time(without bottle in mouth) for the first time ever.

Unfortunatly she squirmed down the front of my dress and savaged a nipple.

Ten minutes later MIL kicked me hard in the crotch. Right on my lady garden's "most nerve ending rich" flower bed.

I want a chainmail bra and a cricket box ....or I am going back to bed. Right after I make Lilly's playhouse.

I found a huge huge box in the store room so today I'll line it with a fleece or six, create a play and sleep area, so she can do some exploring (if she doesn't feel like dozing off after a feed) in a contained fashion.

Just imagine if you had been left with 6 orphans.

One of the worst mornings of my life as a youngster was when I (by accident) let out 17 piglets from the sow's farrowing stall into the farmyard. Took an hour to catch them all and only someone who has known old-fashioned pig rearing could probably truly appreciate the noise. You may think she's a pain at times (beautiful forbye) but really - count your blessings!

Oh I dunno.

I'd like to go to the supermarket at some point. DH and DS keep coming home with stuff they like....but I can't make a meal out of.

Once she is walking and a bit more grown up I'll be able to go out for a mad dash around the shop.

Today I'm going to use the two big boxes I have in the store room and create a contained walking kitty area. Which no doubt she'll escape from the very first time I leave the house.

cozietoesie · 14/08/2012 10:17

She should be fine re walking when the time comes. She's a lot more active than I might have expected for such a wee thing. It'll happen. (And then you'll wish it had been three weeks later!)

cozie Should I be putting her on the floor (with her fleece so her toes don't get cold) to practice walking ?

She eats, sleep, screams, poos and wriggles lots. But not much walking practice.

Yay! Confirmed Ear sighting!

Lilly does not like being weighed. There is no sound, but I think you'll agree her opinion on the matter does not go unnoticed

She now weighs either 260 or 280 g. Was bouning around so much in there that the scale couldn't decide.

I thought you were about to give us another commentary on her internal movements there! Grin

Gorgeous - and getting bigger. I think those are real ears now - give it a day or two and they'll suddenly shoot up.

cozie Yes, I think promising is exactly the right word. We have a way to go and there are no guarentees, but every day that goes by increases her chances...probably. Fingers crossed. Makes sign of the horns and manhandles own left tit to ward off bad luck. not that I've absorbed Italian susperstitions or anything

Ahh thank you Nicholas

Here is Lilly with EARS! Please tell me I am not the only one who sees real ears.

That belly is due to three massive feeds on the trot. She woke up hungry. I'm surpised she can even stand given the wieght of all the milk she guzzled.

In that case, she's lucky to have such a wonderful mummy. Fingers crossed for you both Fastweb.

Well you're doing well, suocera. Smile I guess she's not out of the woods yet, but the signs are promising.

Nicholas I feel less like a carer and more like "mummy". Anthropomorphism by the buckeful going on. Blush

maples Oh thank you, not sure how DH and I managed to produce a blonde though. It was a huge surprise when they shoved him under my nose and I saw all this pale hair. Good job I was (gratefully) paralysed or I would have fallen off the operating table.

kylesmybaby FOUR! How are you coping? One has me on my knees. Piccies?

I think today is the day that ears are going to turn ito real ears instead of silly
things down by tpher shoulders. She has just gobbled 15ml in an absolute feeding frenzy, in a compromise position where she lies on her side and I hold her so she can't flip onto her back.

One blimming chemist has shut for the rest of August. Both vets have buggered off on holdiay. Thelast remaining chemist has a perment queue all around the piazza. But today DH will just have to camp out in the mega queue, cos I want worming stuff.

Oh here we go. Half an hour after the last feed she is whinging for more. Bless.

while reading your thread i did wonder if she is a wee bit older with her moving around so much. my kittens are 2 weeks and 1 day and can't walk more than a step without falling again. their back legs arent straight yet and cant hold body weight. they try and climb out of their box but just fall back again. so she may just be a very advanced kitty as lots of the stuff shes doing my four arent even nearly doing yet. also all four of them feed on their backs - they have never done it any other way.
