Oh, yes, good point alpine. But then events would short-circuit back to the coach accident, at which point Julie and policewoman are still in the village, so they would still be there even though they had ditched Victor and therefore escaped.

I hadn't realised that adele and Laura hadn't been able to leave. I wondered why they just came to a halt and sat there looking at each other.

I think lots of people are dead who don't realise it yet.

I think something very odd has gone on in the past and they couldn't leave/people couldn't get in which is why Mrs Costas said people starved.

well it's the french thing of tu (more informal, for people you know quite well) vs vous (more formal, used as a respect, for people you don't know).
She said to Julie " we used to use tu before didn't we?" after julie had used the word vous. To which Julie replied something about it being a long time ago.
This led me to think that they used to be if not mates at least familiar with one another. After all it's a small town and they are about the same age so it isn't that much of a stretch.

The two candles were very prominent chez Adele when she picked up the tray - one tall and one half height? Do the candles represent people?

So many things confuse me.

Adele commented to Julie that they used to know each other well/be closer (can't remember exact words) - which i did take to mean that they had had a relationship. Julie had obviously been covering for Adele when Simon came a-knocking.

Mme Costa - i do like her :) She's so direct. So the implication is that she had died 3 times - the starving/shooting/fire.

Did the Priest say "You or one like you" to Simon when Simon asked if he was expecting him?

I have no real theories, loving the ideas on this thread - and struggling to make sense of it all - but still enjoying it!
