ANyone got this dress from wallis? How does it fit? is it small/big/ long etc?

And what shoes would you wear with it? would you wear tights?
I am a 6/8 and need an outfit for a 50th in a couple of weeks, want to look fabbo in a classic ish kind of way.

i coudn't find the same one in teh Wallis shop but there was a similar looking one. It was awful! It hung oddly and clung in strange places. I was rather dejected to say the least!

That one was one i tried on to see what the colour was like on my relatively pae skin!

I am not planning on wearing tights but i do have some black ones i can wear if needs be.

What a turnaround- but a lovely dress!

Are you wearing tights with it?

They do actually look nice with teh dress and needed to be ones i would wear again. Legs are the inbetween paleness so works quite well!!

Would you wear a chunky ish necklace with it? Got a chunky cream daisy necklace too that i have yet to wear. Looks ok.

Autumn colours look too Boden for me... purple looks foul on me, ditto blues.

Thanks for your concern over my wearing of black, Kristina. I'm sure you'll be relieved to hear that it looks fine on me

I don't wear orange either, i was just giving examples, I wear reds, purples and blues

do red heads look good in black? I thought they were meant to wear teal greens, rich blues, purples and autumn colours? I guess it depends on your skintone and what shade of red you are. All my red haired friends are pale and interesting and black wears them rather than the other way around

anyway, i will watch this thread to find out how the Op decides to accessorise that black dress

black dress is lovely

great length -not at all boring imo.

I'm ginger, so black dresses are my friend and I'm just so used to steering clear of reds and oranges that I'm really not a fan of those dresses; but as you say, we are all different.

I like the black opaques and shoe combo you picked though.

so you could wear something like this orange jersey twist dress or orange silk.

And black heels like these or these from M and S. I would wear black opaques as my knees are not up to it

so much as the Op suggested, just a brighter colour, higher heels and a dress/skirt on or just above the knee, not mid calf

since you asked - that's the type of thing i would wear to a 50th birthday. I will let you know what I wear to my own

well as the OP has said, she wants that dress so that's fine. i have nothing against LBDs, its just that at such an event there will be rather a lot of them, that's all

if it were me ( and clearly its not), i would wear colour, probably a red or purple dress. i don't do pattern as I'm middle aged and norky so mostly patterned dresses look matronly on me. But i love it on others

i find that a "classic" look on my age and figure looks very boring, rather than tasteful. but we are all different

op, i hope you have a great evening

Thanks for the insightful style advice, Kristina, I'll bear it in mind

Who would have thought a style and beauty thread could turn nasty?

Let's not snipe... what would you suggest for such an occasion?

tethersend - its not actually compulsory to wear either a LBD or a sparkly top and black trousers

Mom - i hope you find a outfit you are happy with

Ahh but most of the other women are likely to be wearing trouser suits or smart trousers/sparkly top (in fact i know a lot of then are!) ANd i am not very adventurous but thought i could wear again and again with a bright waistbelt or something?

if you want to look like all the other women at a 50th birthday wearing LBDs

if you are a size 6/8 and under 70, coudln't you be a little more adventurous? seriously.......
