"They are not leggings material but denim and are, as far as I can tell, skinny jeans with an elasticated waist and no pockets which tuck into boots properly and must be worn with a long top. In fact are to give a better silhouette under a long top than normal jeans, hence the lack of pockets."

You see this makes them sound like a good idea, I have never worn skinny jeans as a)I have thighs like tree trunks and b) you can't get a smooth line underneath the top so I don't see the point. I think the main point is that they should only ever be worn with long line tops and knee high boots, anything else looks awful.

jeg could be the word for marathon fundraisers - to jog and beg for sponsors

ala ME this sunday.. I will be JEGGING half marathon. Not in jeggings tho (ow that would be worse than running with a sanitary towel on)

pmsl! yeah fair point, rubbish name but for a night out they looked great. My sister wears those shiny leggings (rather than the pvc look ones) all the time which is fine fo her - that is her "look" but for me it's a night out thing.

Like herjazz said the shine on them makes your legs look incredibly long and skinny. I DID have a bit of a moment wondering if I could wear them or not but just went for it. I firmly believe that it's all state of mind. If you think you're going to look 16/61 in them then you probably are but go out there with a who gives a shit attitude and you can pull it off.

wet look just conjures up such unappealing imagery

why would one want clothes to look wet?

oh and no to jogging in jeggings - too much hoiking

what about joggings - like cross between jogging bottoms and leggings. Purely for exercise purpose, obv

Report
herjazz · 04/10/2009 21:23

well maybe YOU would scottishmummy

nah my first thought was that they would look like some hideous exercise gear from the 80s

But on me mate they had this illusionary effect of the v shiny bit down the middle front of her leg looking like it was her whole leg - eg very thin

Ask WWW - she got some. Said so earlier in thread

am even turning re wet look leggings. Initial thought was good grief no but my mate looks fab in hers

was in h&m yesterday and was drawn towards the leggings on the mannequins. Got closer and realised they were just the black shiny plastic legs!

"ah well, i have a feeling this thread is dividing between thin women that can wear most fashion trends including this one.

and those who are, ahem, less than svelte, would not look good in them, and therefore hate the whole look. "

Even thin/svelte women look dreadful in these things.

Anyone past puberty looks hideous in them, both my girls are wearing Leggings as I type this, but they are 3 & 6, not 26 or 36, or 46........ And I hate to sound, um, fattist but anyone with thighs that chaffe together or a muffin top really needs to be enlightened that no, they are not flattering, we can all still see your wobbley bits and if anything that long, gathered at the bottom cardy/top just makes you look bigger.

Stop it, just don't buy them, and if you have got some, only wear them for painting and decorating, or gardening. When no-one will see you.

A definite no. I wouldn't have believed such a thing could exist if I hadn't seen a girl wearing them last week.

funnily enough i hadn't even noticed them before this thread, but saw hge numbers of teens wearing them in town - some well, some..erm not so well. thogh i think it's reached the point where the one thing they are not is individual.

wet look leggings...under no circumstances. herion chic of the cheapest looking kind.

Wowe - I just looked them up on Top Shop.com. There was a time when I wore jeans that tight - but that was 25 years ago and I no longer beliee I will be a rock'n'roll suicide by the age of 28. Maybe I should give them a go, see if all the teenage angst somes back as well. make a change from the late 30-something angst.

Saw some for first time this week on somebody younger than me but definitely too old for these - were teamed up with see-thru frilly skirt (pelmet), bright boots and long dark cardi. I know I looked like a cat dragged me in but still was relieved I hadn't done that . For me at least, definitely NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo!!

I am still in shock that people are wearing skinny (or drainpipe) jeans and leggings again, especially with long baggy-nipped-in-under-the-bum-tops or skirts far shorter than they would wear with normal tights.

Really, get a full-length mirror, be honest about what you see. (legs like carrots and a huge arse, really, you're not fooling anyone with that outfit, in fact it makes you look bigger)

Leggings ~ Footless tights ~ Skinny jeans ~ all things that should have been left in the 80's, the decade that style forgot.

As for Jeggings, surely they are a hanging offence.

but posh they're much cheaper, more comfy due to lots of lycra and no bulky waistband showing through a thinner/clingy dress.
