ok, this leggings thing

Although I am really too old for 'em I am intrigued

I am tall, slim, fairly flat tummy, with long legs, admittedly saggy knees but they will be covered of course. I have some long tops and boyfriend cardis to cover the bum area

I could consider wearing them if they were quite heavy duty, dark coloured, non-see-through material, came right down to my ankles and didn't go baggy

Has anybody of 40+ bought any and looked ok, and where might I find some like I have described ?

Skinny jeans are best if they are a good fit and skinny enough but jeggings are great for boots Footless tights nice with dresses but nothing looks good with gladiators really unless you are in an amphitheatre!

a mixture of trousers and leggings, mine are black

like jeggings are a mixture of jeans and leggings

the fabric is much thicker and end up being like the skinniest trousers ever

which is fab if you find very skinny jeans just tend to give you abdominal wind and thrush !! (sorry, TMI for a style thread )

ok, I have done it

been out to the shops this evening and got a pair of "treggings" from TopShop that have buttons at the front rather than just pull-on

thy come right to the ankle where they have a little cuff at the bottom, are thick and robust material (not at all see-thru) and very flattering (as long as you wear a top/cardi that covers ya bum)

6% elastane so seem to actually give my legs a better shape than they really have (and hold up those saggy knees)

love 'em, but not cheat (25 quid)

I am tempted by the Toast "Churidars" (fancy name for their leggings) which are pricey but look a bit more grown uppish.

Am hesitant about leggings as I have worn them first time round (20 years ago)...

Am 39, 6 ft 1 , and have ok legs apart from those prematurely ageing knees...

Oh god nothing cutting edge AnyFucker believe me! My style could be summed up as 50's pin-up/punk/boho I guess.

In summer its maybe a floral tea dress (like the one JewelsandGems linked to on her thread!) or other little dress with pretty flats with nice accessories. In winter it's more dresses but with opaques and my biker boots and chunky cardies.

Wear wide leg trousers or jeans with my converse too a lot but try to always wear nice tops and jewellery. Lots of bangles and chunky necklaces.

For special occasions I love Stop Staring retro dresses and I have a fab Roland Mourret Galaxy imitation I got on ebay which is quite Jessica Rabbit I think!

Nothing trend setting but I stick to my own tastes and never buy anything just because other people are wearing it.

Agree with Bunny I am afraid - the only time I've ever seen someone in leggings and thought, wow, that looks good, the person in question was about 14 and very very skinny. I wouldn't go there, but then I don't understand fashion anyway.

Anyway my (no doubt unpopular) tuppence worth on leggings.

The're vile. And done to death. Model types can get away with them but these are the same women who could get away with wearing a dress made out of roadkill.

On anyone else they look extremely unattractive and unflattering.

Particularly when worn with gladiator sandals (which I just don't get anyway). Walking round town I'm completely baffled seeing scores of presumably otherwise intelligent, sensible women dressed like demented extras from The Life of Brian in their leggings and gladiators (or glads dahling).

And why would you want to look exactly like everyone else? I don't get it.

just make sure your leggings are thick enough that you cant see skin/underwear through them. I've seen some truely awful examples of this lately, and your top MUST cover your arse

Its all down to the elastane content isn't it? The more the better for holding you in.

I bought my running leggings on that basis and they do manage to stop the wobble admirably.

How do people stand on jeggings?

Saw a friend of mine sporting them last week, and frankly didn't think they did much for her. She is tall, size 14 with big bottom (AKA 'hourglass curves' obviously)

I would never have given leggings a second thought but then saw this. Not normally a Next shopper but did like that.
