Boat shoes - yay or nay?

Boat shoes

Saw these and really liked them. Thought they’d be a good alternative to the white trainer trend (which I’ve not totally got onboard with).

What do people think?

Do those saying they aren't in fashion why do so many shops sell them . These are much nicer , I like the look of the Salcombe 3 www.moshulu.co.uk/womens-shoes/boat-shoes

That’s what I was wondering. I’ve seen them everywhere this year.

I like boat shoes and have a pair! Granted, I don't follow fashion so don't know about the does and don'ts. It s probably a don't looking at other responses but each to their own I say :). One day when they are back in fashion, you will be able to tell everyone you were ahead of the times:)

They are nice. Boat shoes just don't happen to be in fashion.

Oh I quite like them! I had some navy Sebago ones (bought in a cruise ship port town) that I was pretty miffed when they were stolen!
They were more loafer-like though.

I was about to say I’m fed up of the sea of white trainers everywhere. Go for them, they’re cheery.

Everyone has them in France. Possibly just the men though? They can pull them off better than me, anyway.

But I bought some white trainers and kind of hate myself for being such a sheep.

If you like them wear them. People look best in clothes they like an feel comfortable in.

I have Sperry deck shoes which are styled slightly differently - more slouchy, less colourful, and very nice quality. I think the ones you've linked are too 'buttoned up' for casual wear but they're boat shoes so not formal.

There are nicer models out there.

Yes!!! I have several pairs

They are good in the summer when it's kissing down with rain so not flip flops but it's warm enough for not socks and trainers.

I'm in Cornwall and deck shoes and chinos are also a bit of a uniform

I like boat shoes in general (well, tan or navy ones) but I don’t like those colours. How about a plainer pair?

They remind me of my great aunt. She's 83.

You’d have to pay me a lot of money to wear those.

Will you be on a boat? If your answer is no, do not buy them. Actually, even if you will be on a boat, do not buy.

HTH

Agree. By the same token, trainers are completely unacceptable other than for sporting activities, and even then, they're pretty awful.

Everyone is BU for not pointing out the use of "onboard" on a thread about boat shoes!

I had some lovely red ones when I was a teen. But honestly now the only person I know who wears them does actually go sailing as a hobby.

Love them .....not much different than a loafer.

If you travel to the continent, you'll notice that pretty much every single man owns a pair of those.

Growing up, I literally never met a single boy who didn't have one!

I love boat shoes especially Timberlands, I get seasick on a wet pavement but I love the look.
Ignore the doom mongers, if you like them go for it!
