Being able to wear tottering heels; is it genetic, aquired skill or simply gritty determination?

Leading on from crunchie's thread which asked about gorgeous but VERY high heels.

I just can't seem to wear heels at all. I don't very often want to, but I do sometimes think it could come in handy to be able to walk in a pair of killer heels without looking like my 4 year old when she dresses up.

So heel wearers, what is your secret? How have you aquired this life skill?

Good point MAS on scratchy underwear, I'm not very good with that either. I managed to wear high heels AND pinchy stockings to my sister's wedding 10 years ago but I think that was the last time. Am obviously not putting the practice in.

Do you think my Dh would suspect I was having an affair if I started to do the school run in evening wear?

I can't do it either - even if they're wedges!
Mustn't have tried hard enough when younger

I'm sure it's a similar thing to being able to wear uncomfortable but 'sexy' underwear with bits of scratchy lace and wire and things etc

I wear heels a lot, but I have big feet for my size (size 6 - I am only 5ft!) so they make me look like a tranny

I can't do heels, i'd really like to and i have some lovely shoes (from the days of full time employment and no kids) but when i wear them i get into a really angry and frustrated mood because i HATE not being able to walk and move with comfort and ease.

I stagger and end up wanting to throw them out of the window. I can just about do low heels but it's still not fun. I have some beautiful high heeled ankle boots but i may has well have fractured ankles and leg braces so the look of them is counteracted by the drunken zombie walk. Why can't i do it?

Yes buggy will work easily as well I should think, as long as you don't have to lift dc at any point... Can you hide killer heels under really long jeans? Or just go the whole hog and do school run in evening wear - you will be the glammest* mum in the village

*Am aware this is probably not a word...

I have practised and practised and practised and I CAN'T DO IT!

I'm going with genetics.

Am liking the trolley for support in style of zimmer frame idea. Maybe could do school run using buggy to similar effect (it's only 5 mins up the road). People would think I was absolutely bonkers mind you (live in small village in the middle of nowhere where people don't dress up much).

"Limo shoes" that sounds like what I'm aiming for. If I start small and work up, maybe I can wear some to my retirement do!

practice makes perfect....

start off with smaller heels, go higher and higher....

can now walk in 10 cm heels....admittedly not that far, but for a party. ANything over 7.5cm is only for wearing if you have a car handy and only have to walk from cab to restaurant/bar etc...as my dh calls them..."limo shoes"

Acquired skill. Wear your killer heels to Tesco and totter round using the trolley for support
