Dungarees on adults

How do people feel about adults wearing dungarees?!

I’ve fancied some for ages and just ordered these: lucyandyak.com/collections/corduroy-dungarees

But now wondering what on earth I put with them top/shoes wise...and if I’ll just look silly 😂.

Any mumsnetters have dungaree success?!

Since you are asking for honest opinions - I’m not a fan at all and they are completely not to my taste. I had a couple of pairs as a teenager, however, my style has massively evolved in the last 20 years.
I also think that people should wear whatever they feel like

Why not just wear jeans or trousers though? All that faffing with buckles when you want to go to the loo just for the sake of what is essentially a bib on top of jeans. I don't get it!

I'm not in the fan club. Minions, toddlers, etc. etc.
Even when people post pictures of someone "looking amazing" in them, all I can ever see is a fundamentally gorgeous woman who would look much more stylish in pretty much anything else.

Before I get flamed, this is the Style & Beauty section and OP was canvassing for opinions; I've given mine.

I wear mine with t shirts and converse, I love them!

@TranquilityofSolitude aren’t they lovely?

So comfy and easy to wear. I have been wearing them with a white tee underneath.

@wingbingo. Just wanted to say thank you for the pictures and recommendation. I went to Tesco and bought the khaki pair this afternoon. I'm really pleased with them.

I bought some dungarees recently. They look nice with a tight t-shirt underneath. Add a fluffy cardigan on top if it's chilly.

I love mine; big pockets and no waistband - perfect 😍

I love the look of dungarees and i wish I could pull them off. I once tried on a pair and they look ridiculous on my body shape! If you want to wear them go for it with a blouse or T-shirt or vest top underneath.

Well Maddie Moate always looks lovely in them. But she's a CBeebies presenter, so.....

I wore mine practically all the way through one pregnancy in 1980. In the last month I adapted the side fastenings to fit with rubber bands.
So now when I see someone wearing them I wonder if they’re pregnant. Amazing that they keep coming back time and time again. They always look pretty much the same - I wish I still had my 1980 ones, but I wore them to rags.

I have a 60 year old friend who wears them but she has incredible style and flair and always looks fabulous.
She is very slim and always buys ones with a very flattering cut.
I would never ever get away with wearing such a garment.

Pics on this thread of people in dungarees look fab, but I suspect that this is one of those things, like leather leggings, that I would look ridiculous in. Am tempted to give it a go...

Oh dear. I didn't realise I was supposed to be sporting heels and a push-up bra while looking after our toddler. Most remiss of DH not to tell me.

I have never seen a man in person in dungarees so not sure how "Women shouldn't wear this item because they look better in it than men do" is relevant.

@EyeDrops I lived in my Lucy and yak dungareestbrkugh winter as a fire mine with a pink teddy coat.

@RedRed9 How tall are you? I’m 6ft with a 36” inside leg and I wear tall originals. They are only 32” inside leg but the bib is 5 inches longer. The style is to roll and wear cuffed anyway so a little shirt doesn’t matter!
The denim ones in a 32 are plenty long enough too.

Spot the oddball 😂 (clue: no one cares about any of the weird shit you're spouting. Btw I wouldn't be impressed if DP wore any of my outfits).

I can safely say that I do not dress with a thought to whether or not men will find me sexy. Tbh, most of the time I would rather they didn't. "Being sexy" is not one of my main aims as I go through the working day.

WingBingo · 27/05/2020 07:08

Wow, I wear certain clothes so men find my sexy?

Nope. Couldn’t give two shits about that.

Oh my god, yearcat have you heard yourself? My DP says I look like Oor Wullie in my dungarees. I suspect he’s also not thought me very sexy while I’ve had the flu, and literally been crawling to the bathroom. Or right now while I am wearing joggers and a bobbly jumper. He still wants to have sex with me though. Probably because he’s not an arse.

Here are mine, today. Do I look sexy? No. Do I give a fuck? Also, no. Get over yourself.

yearcat women are under no obligation to look sexy. Whether men find women in dungarees hard to take seriously is probably not a factor most of us would be bothered about. How would I feel about a man wearing dungarees on a first date? Umm well it very much depends on the man who is wearing them . Rather a sweet, funny, interesting and honest man in dungarees than a sexist remnant from the 1950s in a shirt and smart trousers .

Good for you. Though men wanting sex with a female is hardly evidence, given how desperate men are. Seriously good for you but I still think adults in dungarees look like toddlers. It's not sexy.

Good thing I'm not a man Yearcat.
Incidentally men have always been drawn to me in my dungarees. Maybe it's the challenge of trying to get them off?!

I have had loads of pairs for years. Denim ones, slinky ones, all sorts. I'm a slightly overfull hourglass and they kind of accentuate my waist while masking my boobs a bit. If I wear jeans and a fitted top I find it hard to get the jeans waistband in a place where it doesn't cut me and squish my hip fat ( ew I know!) and I'm self conscious in t shirt tops as my boobs are very noticeable. I'm actually wearing dungarees now. I think they were from h and m and are a navy print, with a white vest top underneath and big gold earrings 90s R&B styleGrin. So comfy too!
