What jacket do you wear for nights out?

Ok so I've found myself owning only winter coats, waterproofs and cardigans. My summer jackets are too tatty, small, or have bleach on Blush but I didn't really like them anymore anyway. I'm always cold and always wear an outerlayer when out of a night so hardcores need not reply Grin

What would you wear for:-

chilled evening in the pub,
cocktails in bars,
Meal in restaurant.

I can only afford one jacket and I need to feel comfortable (not too dressed up or down). I'm thinking blazer...but having never owned one I feel a bit poncy? I'm naturally drawn to military jacket but its too casual for cocktails or a meal. I don't know if I like leather jackets either, so can't justify forking out for one when I feel a bit meh.

Has someone got a link to the perfect jacket please Grin

DP wasn't enamoured with my choice... I'm not usually bothered by this but it's given me cold feet on whether I really do love this jacket now....

It says tailoring inside so I was like oh no it's the work wear section. Then I saw the material. It's crepe polyester so not jersey casual type. But I tried it on and I liked the way it hung, it's not structured and it felt good. Really don't want to wear it once and put it away for good though so give me your verdict pls, bearing in mind how I've described the material! Is it too worky and do I look like a ponce? DP asked me where my filofax was Grin

Glad you found something you like. I struggle with blazers, I have a denim jacket, a leather jacket and a military jacket and which I wear depends on the outfit, DH and I went out for a meal followed by dancing last night and I wore my denim jacket over a flouncy red maxi dress with stan smiths.

FWIW I've found my military jacket is smarter than I anticipated. I wear it quite neat though.

Yay! I'm glad you got sorted. Personally love a blazer - do check out Whistles slim jersey jacket if you feel like investing, they do the every season and change colours.

Right I know no one's interested anymore. But in the end I ordered both a leather and a blazer. The blazer won massively!!!! I actually love it on whereas the leather was blah on me, and I know it wasn't because it was cheap. Somehow blazer looks more casual than a leather which is too try hard (for me and my over thinking mind). I can see a blazer spurt coming on....

There are some "jersey" blazers which are casual but not too casual. New Look has some cheap ones, but also Asos, Oasis also do more casual ones. Zara has nice ones but mostly they are dry clean only, which I find to be a pain. H&M is normally good as well but they tend to be bit more formal ones (good for work etc). For summer, denim jacket as well.

Thanks all. I think I'll be leaving the blazers for now as you've confirmed how Ill feel wearing it. I like them on others but I'm used to being casual all the time and I won't be able to get past the management formal feel of it and will avoid wearing it on a second occasion. Unfortunately I'm last minute purchasing for this weekend too so no time to search for the ultimate one that I will get lots of wear out of.

I'm going for a leather, a cheap one to see how I feel and will take me through the summer. I think leathers should be my thing, judging by everything else I wear, and I'll learn to love it. I'm just a bit hung up thinking that it'll smell, and they remind me of car tyres and that makes me feel car sick Confused

I wear a fitted leather jacket. A blazer just seems a bit more work like to me.

A good leather jacket! It goes with practically everything, I always seem to match mine with my outfit whether it's jeans, a summer dress, a sexy dress or anything. Definitely worth investing in.

I take my grey biker jacket out as it's smart & looks good with jeans & dresses

I wear blazers a lot, but not sure how it would work for a night out (unless a tux jacket) or a weekend, makes me feel too work-y on a weekend. Why not a trench coat in a darker color?

Check out Zara. I bought my grey jersey blazer in there and it has been worn to death. Actually I could do with a new one

I love blazers. To me, they do exactly what you say, they make any outfit looked more ‘pulled together’. Why not try a jersey blazer to start with? Smart but not ‘office smart’ they are a useful go-between. H&M for cheapish ones and Whistles or Joules for more expensive ones.

Bump bump

I'll be more concise here...should I just embrace the blazer because I'll love it once I'm wearing it, even though I'm a bit apprehensive.
