Fat, 50 and going clubbing . Help 😱

MeMyElfandI · 19/05/2017 20:14

0ff on hen weekend soon. Will be mainly very lovely 20 somethings with a sprinkling of oldies. I fall into later category. Fat and 50. Going to wine bar and then off to club, it has been decades since I went clubbing and very rarely get out to wine bars these days.

Can I get your thoughts on this outfit, is it ok so out of touch. 5'8" and size 18/20.

These trousers in black www.baukjen.com/uk/shop/baukjen/jumpsuits/liana-jumpsuit-darkest-navy.htm with this top www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/yolanda-print-cowl-neck-tee/10594, these shoes www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0355417001.html#Black and this jacket www.marksandspencer.com/ruched-sleeve-blazer/p/p22504316?image=SD_01_T59_3500J_K0_X_EC_90&color=CREAM&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect and this clutch www.houseoffraser.co.uk/bags-and-luggage/michael-kors-jetset-travel-crossbody-clutch-bag/d778825.pd#264076502.

Is this ok or am I on wrong track all together.

Flowers It's not silly at all- it's hard to get out and about after all that you've been through, give yourself a pat on the back. Clubbing is one of those things where it really feels daunting what to wear, I'd feel the same. Once you get there I bet you won't even think about it and you'll just have a good time with your pals. Remember that other people there will feel a bit self conscious as well about what they're going to wear, most people do. Have a great time Wine

Aw thank you Angel. I used to the life and soul of the party but sort of lost my way in my mid 40s. My dad died, work shit, blah ,blah, blah. Ended up with depression. Still got it but not as bad but confidence knocked to shit. Was very close to saying no to hen do but can't be an oddity for the rest of my life.

I guess that is why I'm getting so worked up about what to wear, silly really.

Right I have spent way to much of my day trawling through the Internet in bid to find tops.

This is the best I can come up with.

Navy top (I have the same trousers I posted up thread in navy and black). www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/ink-shimmer-cowl-neck-tee/9892. It looks to be a fine linen knit with a sheeny finish. Would it be too casual for wine bar and night club? Would wear with same jacket etc.

Or do I embrace the fat arms and wear something like this as will keep jacket on until I have consumed that many cocktails I won't care what I look like www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_028030811960_-1.

What do you think or should I stick with original choice.? Tried jumpsuit on and although looks ok from front I think side on there def is a bit of the telly tubby going on.

I think fold up pumps and the original outfit - job done. I love it and I'm 32. Classy and trendy. And I've never had a problem getting a jumpsuit on and off for the loo even when very drunk!!

Definitely clubbing not wine bar disco. Although my legs are quite shapely for my size and I have tried blacked waxed skinnes on before believe me it's not a sight a want to inflict on the wider population. 😄

I also have the trousers on navy as well so could go down the blue route instead of black. It's the damn top that is the problem.

Thanks Purple I looked at John Lewis but all the ones that fit the bill are either not in my size or out of stock.

Don't know why I am worrying so much it is not as if anyone will be paying much attention to what I look like anyway, I guess it is just a confidence thing.

I would go for jumpsuit. With a pair of cream shoes, as it would match jacket and clutch. A shoe with a wedge could work well as it be easier to walk and dance in.

Do you mean clubbing or on to a cheesetastic wine bar style disco?
This makes all the difference.

Love the cowl top
Wear with some waxed skinnies and boots/trainer boot!
Loads of sparkly Charlotte tilbury eye
Dry hair 3/4 then pin it and leave until you go out...upside down spray and go

Try John Lewis. Lots came up when I searched for silk tops. I liked your jumpsuit tho. Top 2 dodgy if you are apple-shaoed IMHO.

I think jewellery trend amongst younger age group is for chockers and/or multi strand fine chains with charms or small pendants. I cld b wrong. Check out Grazia may or try booking a stylist apt. I tried JLs and Debenhams. Latter fab, but depends on luck with getting compatible stylist.

Your main aim is to have fun. Are you the Groom's Mum?

Thanks for trying Clarabelle. I will keep trying but if not top 2 will have to do.

Just had a quick look and bloody cold-shoulders everywhere! Sorry for not being much help.
Make-up sounds lovely Smile

Thanks ladies. make-up sorted have spent a small fortune lately on Charlotte Tilbury and Laura Mercier. Think of keeping it quite low key as don't want it to settle into the wrinkles but concentrating on eyes. Also was thinking of getting some of those fold up pumps as well.

Hair is basically a blonde bob and can't do much with that but could try maybe to do something with straighteners to make it a bit choppy.

Jewellery I'm at a bit of a loss.

Wish I could find a plain black silky t shirt in my size. Have already scoured internet with few options all either all polyester and Bardot or cut out shoulders or very mumsy.

How about just a plain silky t-shirt with the trousers? I don't think you would want anything to 'compete' with the ruched sleeves on the jacket, if you know what I mean?

I think you're close on nailing it, if not already so. Like the jumpsuit and jacket. In the end, at these types of events, people check you out from the chest up, because you're probably sitting behind a table (at a bar), or standing in semi-darkness (club).

Have you taken the likely weather conditions into consideration with your choice of style/fabrics?

I would ditch the shoes and get something solid but glam that you can walk/dance in. And I don't mean sparkly Fitflops! :-) Maybe get some cheap pumps and shove them in your bag. Or this folding ones by butterfly or whoever.

Have you got your makeup and jewellery sorted? And hair? A basic outfit 'dressed' right could be the clincher. Good underwear too?

Can you ask one of the youngsters if you are on the right track? After all there are all kinds of clubs, but I guess you're going to something mainstream with a glam dress code. But, reckon you've got it pretty sussed. Get the outfit sorted and concentrate on getting trashed having fun. Can I come too?

I see what's going on 😊 I prefer the second top to the first one. And i like the jumpsuit too! But I think jumpsuits are definitely something you have to try on yourself and see if they suit 😊

MeMyElfandI · 19/05/2017 23:19

Know what you mean although as jumpsuits go it seems quite easy to get out off but who knows what it will be like after a few drinks.

Really stuck on a top though.

It works now Smile
I like the trousers and the jumpsuit, but personally I would go for trousers to avoid any unfortunate loo incidents! Blush

You have linked to the jumpsuit instead of trousers in your first post, which is why we are confused!

What do you think of this top as an alternative? www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/rafia-print-cowl-neck-tee/9250

Clutch was a real bargain only got it this week. Reduced from £155 to £86. Thought it was a good buy. Not normally a Michael Kors fan but really liked it.

No the jumpsuit was just an alternative. To the trouser top and jacket. I know what you mean about the top but I can't find anything else in my size that isn't completely sleeveless or cold shoulder both of which not a good look with my upper arms
