It looks like a cross between an 80s bed valance and a sack of potatoes. Or am I missing something?

I was going to say that if the pink dress didn't have the bell sleeves it could be quite a good look.

Then I clicked on the pics of it being worn by the model and, as a pp said, if it doesn't flatter a model there is no hope for the rest of us.

Dresses really do need waists in them!

I like the pink Leadbetter Special. Not for everyone but fun and successful in what it's trying to achieve.

The brown abomination otoh is just unforgivable. Somebody looked at it and thought "oh yes, shit brown is the colour to make that in, to ram home the sack of potatoes chic look." Literally any other colour in the Pantone catalogue would have been an improvement.

The first dress looks like a prison uniform for convicts disembarking from the first fleet to Botany Bay.

I adored Margot Leadbeater. Completely stylish.

The Sack O' Poo dress

Brilliant.
A perfect description.

The above is a big M&S success. Sold out in all sizes and way better than the versions produced for Topshop et al.

I think it looks quite nice. The model's hair and the flat sandals are good with the look.

BUT it would look ridiculous on a real person!!

It could possibly pass if it was in a summery very lightweight cotton print.

But the colour.......

That brown dress just needs a bit of ruching and it could double up as an austrian blind.

I've got fitted bedsheets I'd sooner wear.

Yet Cos clothes look like shapeless sacks and folk rave about Cos on here.

(Pulls on skinnies and Muse t-shirt while muttering loudly that I don't fucking get fashion)

I thought I'd do a quick search and come up with a few dresses whcih ARE nice/ smart/ flattering and I'm struggling to find any. Many shirt dresses but with their tie belt you risk looking a bit sack tied in the middle and a few bodycon black dresses but to be honest it's not easy to find things.

Yes hideous BUT there are loads of tops in the shops exactly like that. Off the shoulder and shapeless. I just sent one back I ordered from Boden. Really unflattering.

Stella McCartney. Almost as hideous for £600+.

Should this also be on the more money than sense thread?

The pink dress actually made me laugh. Had to look at it twice just for the chuckle factor. 😂😂😂

I don't know what the m&s buyers are thinking, they really are buying in some atrocious stuff.

How awful! Even the model looks pissed off having to wear it! Oh M and S, what were you thinking! 🙄

Fuck that's awful.

I do love Margot Leadbetter though, she was fierce.

The pink thing has a special feature as a star item on the website, it would seem. Be "the belle of the ball".

I agree about the shapeless brown thing, but I also feel a lot of Toast items are similarly shapeless and unalluring.

It's a shit brown sack. No thanks M&S.
