For some reason I find the Beauty counter staff generally nicer in Debenhams or John Lewis at the Trafford Centre than Selfridges.

Avoid the Mac counter in Selfridges if you dnt feel very confident they are very scary.
It's not all mac counters, I've met nice ones but that lot .........

YSL or Chanel
MAC/Nars
Nars

I don't think there's a one-size fits all answer to this question, I cherry-pick bits and pieces from all different brands, but your skin might hate my choices. I'd go and get matched to foundations at as many counters as you can, then ask to have samples to take away and see how they wear on your skin.

Estée Lauder Double Wear
Urban decay
Charlotte Tilbury
MAC loose powder

In that order.

I'd start with a couple of make overs in a dept store.
I like Bobbi Brown blusher and powders, but like Dior Star foundation.
Depends what kind of skin you have and whether you want light foundation or heavier duty and the type of finish- matte or dewy.
