So Samantha Cameron has launched a clothing label. I've just had a look and I really like it - looks potentially very wearable. What do you reckon?

(Can't see another thread about this - apols if I'm repeating)

Nope, not for me. And way out of my price range.

Floisme · 13/02/2017 21:24

God dammit I quite like some of it.

All looks a bit dull to me. And she obviously likes a high neckline.

Boring. Too expensive. And annoying that this greedy woman is trying to make money out of her name.

I wouldn't buy anything that means putting money in the Cameron's pockets. Fucking scumbags.

Dull. And I wouldn't buy anything even if it wasn't so boring out of principle.

Dull dull dull. Expensive du.

Politics and fashion just don't mix. It ain't going so well for the Trumps....

I won't be contributing to the Camerons' income. It's also dull and expensive.

As an aside, budget holidays?!?! For a lot of folk, that's also known as a holiday Hmm

It all looks a bit dull, doesn't it? I quite liked the high necked midi dress though (but I do have very 'safe' taste) It's quite expensive - Hobbs, LK Bennett, Boden etc seem to have similar styles for less.

She's already been featured in her sister's magazine www.vogue.co.uk/article/samantha-cameron-launches-new-fashion-label-cefinn

I've just looked up her credentials in case I was being unkind. Possible dressmaking course at number ten and ambassador for British Fashion Council.

It's just, who would buy something because it's a Samantha Cameron? It's a bit sleb perfume really.

My office is really hot, so some of the high-necked long-sleeved polyester stuff would not be comfortable for work.

It's a bit pricey.

I like the colours.

I don't have the ankles for culottes.

It's aimed at at working women but one of the models looks like a young teenager. I thought that it might have been the Camerons' older daughter at first.

The stuff isn't terrible, and I like a high neck as much as any other flat chested woman, but those funnel necks look a bit strangling and the stuff is quite ambitiously priced for polyester viscose, I think.

I really like it. Won't be buying it though - too expensive me too much of a faff to order online, and return overseas if it doesn't fit well.

It's Zara at inflated prices

My thoughts exactly! Yuck.

£300 for a zip-up khaki jacket?! Hmm

Budget holidays my arse. Is that supposed to make me feel sorry for the poor, hard done by, lamb?

It's quite bland, until you look at the prices and your jaw hits the floor. The high necklines are awful - and the website spells 'culottes' wrong! And calls them 'maxi cullottes' - which I always understood to mean full length, like a maxi dress - which these aren't!

"My feeling is that the price points are a little too high"

A little Shock
We aren't poor, but I think those prices are very high.

Were I a banker possessed of a saucy polyester fetish, six foot and bone thin, I might like it.

She's apparently put a lot of trouble into making the clothes very easy maintenance, which is a plus, until you realise that means artificial fabric, which is not.

I like the idea she's spent time researching what works shape-wise but I can't wear clothes cut for men-women so I'm out.

But surely that depends on what brands you are comparing it too. LK Bennett, Reiss and similar are in the same ballpark, or a little lower. Ergo if I were buying those brands I would feel that the Cefinn price point is a little too high, unless they offer a better fabric or construction. If however the quality it on a par with Zara then of course the Cefinn price point is a lot too high. I haven't seen Cefinn in the flesh yet so assuming a high end high street finish then yes the prices may be a little punchy, but not wildly so.

It is not about how much you individually are prepared to pay, but what the marketplace can support.

It depends on how much money you have as well. £270 for a dress is way, way out of my price range, therefore it is expensive. I don't generally pay Primark prices BTW, but I don't look at places like LK Bennett or Reiss for clothes.

Report
SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 14/02/2017 09:09

That's just my point. It's expensive to you, but maybe not to the target market. The same is true for cars, make up etc. The key to a successful business model is set your prices at the right level for your target market and target profit levels. Get either wrong and the business will fail.
