Has anyone over the age of 40 successfully grown their hair long?!

So, I'm nearly 44, I cut my hair the shortest it's ever been which was collar length about 4months ago. The last time I had long hair was around 10 years ago, since then I've managed to abuse my hair with too many colourings etc and have quite a few 'bob' cuts.

I came across some old photos & yes I saw myself with long hair & now I pine for it back!! I do actually suit it better, hate to admitt it but OH was right!

I did attempt to grow it a couple of years back, but it seemed to get to take ages to get to a certain length then look shit so I'd have to chop it. It's thick & fairly

I wonder if hair growth rate slows down as we age, so is it possible I can grow my hair now I'm nearly 44? I've stopped colouring it & straightening & just tying it back. I don't believe those shampoos can help speed up hair growth, i just have to be bloody patient and kick myself for cutting my hair in the first place!!

My cousin is 56 and has lovely thick quick growing hair.
She's a vegetarian.... since age of 8

Wonder if that helps.

I'm nearly 65 . My hair is to the top of my bra strap.
I get an inch off about every 2 months so it's not really looking any longer which is fine.
I would love thicker though which mine isn't despite the boat load of supplements I take.

So unless you're well blessed in your 60s with brimming over health I think you can expect some thinning and slowness of growth.

Nearing 50 and my hair is down to bra-strap length. Right now I'm growing out colour so the roots had looked appalling. Thankfully it grows quite fast so it's looking more ombre now.

Longest it's been for years and grey too. I love it and get regular comments about it. Fuck age

Mine was jaw length June last year and is now at my bra fastening. I'm 51. I think it's probably slowed a bit but bit massively.

I think I'm going to get it all chopped off again!

It's taken me two years to grow my cropped hair to its current length h which is about 3 inches below my shoulders but I continued to have it cut every 8 weeks throughout that time to keep it in good condition and to keep some sort of style. Wish I'd grown it out years ago now suits me far better long

I'm 46 and my hair's longer than it's ever been. It's always been fine but I figured that if I didn't grow it long now I never would. It looks pretty good I think.

Me! I've gone from proper short to almost bra length in a year. It hasn't been anything other than really short (pixie cuts etc.) since I was 12 and I'm 45 now.

I'm 60 and have had long hair for years, haven't noticed any slowdown in growth, mine doesn't grow very quickly anyway but it is definitely thinner since the menopause, used to have very thick hair but it's about 2/3rds as thick as it used to be. Don't fully colour it but have low lights and highlights and don't have any grey so far.

I'm 42 and started growing out my inverted bob in March. The back was quite short up to my hairline and it's grown quite a bit looking back. I think my hair growth has slowed but it used to grow very quickly.
In fact I need a trim/inbetween length restyle as am starting to struggle to avoid the 90s layered look...

I had mine cut to bob length at 45 and hated it immediately. Within 18 months it was back to bra strap length. My hair grows quickly though and it doesn't seem to be slowing with age.

So there's hope then!! As long as I can keep off the colourants and straighteners, I'm willing to persevere & give it a good chance! I think half my trouble is I get bored easily with my hair & like instant changes - whether it be a colour or a cut! I'll just have to pin the old photo up somewhere as a reminder of what I'm aiming for!!!

I'm 60 and my hair has slowed down but only in the last couple of years. I think whether you've hit the menopause might be more significant than calendar age.

I'm 55 and mine grows at least a cm a month. My roots show after a week.

I second Biotin. I'm 51 and have crazy curly hair that reaches half way down my back. I have supplemented with Biotin for about three years and believe it has helped my hair grow longer and thicker.

I've heard that hair follicle lifespan can decline with age, so that would reduce the maximum length that hair can reach
Suspect it varies from person to person, mine seems to grow at the normal rate and I'm early 50's

46 growing. Never looked better

Mine hasn't stopped/slowed down in growing, not even in my 50s, it was waist length in my early 40s too

Biotin can help it grow faster though, so maybe look into taking that

Mine still seems to grow pretty quick. Had it all chopped off 18 months ago into a pixie cut so am trying to go longer now. It's taking an age as I can't bear the mullet look- so having to keep up the trims.

If I adopted hats/scarves for 6 months and stayed away from the salon I'd have a decent bob by now

Oh and although my hair is going grey, it's in good condition although I do colour it.

Yes, I'm 49, I get it cut into a bob, hate it then grow it, then cut it, hate it grow it, cut it; you see the pattern? Showing no signs of slowing.

I had mine cut in between shoulder and chin more a less a year ago to the date, it's now half way down my back, bra strap length. It still grows really quickly. Also when I cut a fringe in I have to trim it every few weeks or its in my eyes. I'm 46.

My hairs almost waisit length, am in my mid 40s, and like pp it grows too damned fast as root regrowth and the grays appear free only a couple of weeks, very annoying!
