A thread for apples and the non- waisters

Thought I would start this one off as it is such an irritating shape to dress. I will pop down stuff that has worked for me. I am short (5.3 and 1/2 🙂) and between a size 12 - 14 depending on the cut. I have never had a waist and my hip bone and rib cage virtually touch. I have a broad ribcage which is another consideration.

Anyhoo would love to hear fellow apples best buys of late. Here's mine....

  1. swing dip hem vest from Next. Really flattering and will be excellent in the summer. I sized down to a 10 to get a more flattering line.

2)cigarette jeans from Next. Sized down to a 12. Great cut and they don't stretch too much.

  2. relaxed skinny jeans. Next again. Size 12. So comfortable and great to roll up.

A thread for meeeee! Some great ideas here.

Could you help me find a dress for a wedding next weekend? I'm a stone heavier than I'd like to be and my friend lent me a lovely dress to wear but I've just tried it on and could cry, I looked like a lumpy sack of spuds with beads and sequins stuck on :(

Great thread!

I tend to wear jeggings with long jumpers or long vest and shirt/cardigan over.

Any ideas for long tops for an evening out?

Great thread, some fab suggestions. Love the navy jumper from Jigsaw lmp!

For jeans I have one pair that I wear over and over again - high waisted skinnys from H&M, but just checked their website and they no longer have the ones I love Shock I also have the Slim n Lift Next jeans as per 70isa and also have to wear a belt otherwise they slip!

If anyone has any other suggestions re smart work trousers I'd be very interested - I always struggle with any style (5'4", size 12, no waist, skinny legs).

Great thread! I'm an apple too, am size 12-14 and 5'8''. As well as no waist, I have 34" legs, which us a right pain in the arse for finding jeans. I wear skinnies and have film legs, but when they fit my legs nicely, I can't get them done up around the waist....

I am just too tall/long in body/legs God standard stuff and too short for tall ranges, generally. With no waist. I didn't luck-out too well, did I?Smile

Keep the apple friendly shop Recs coming please, I haven't tried quite a few of them - maybe that's my problem!!

These ponte trousers are similar to ones I have for work but I haven't these ones on yet.

I agree with previous poster about Warehouse being good for tops although lots are man made fabrics. I am okay with this as my workplace isn't too hot and my clothes have to be readily machine washable.

The boden ravello top works for me and it is my go to 'going out for dinner' top.

I have ordered a Winser London miracle dress, the style I bought was recommended for hourglasses but it was the least fussy so I am hoping it won't be too bad on me - I will report back when it has arrived.

This is a great thread. I am an apple with a long body and have a gap between hip and ribs but it is wear I carry most of my weight. I go between being thickset when thinner and looking a bit pregnant when heavier ( now).

I am currently wearing m&s skinny jeans (love) and a boden off-duty jumper. My long body and height adds to the problem as the hip length tops i see on others often don't reach my waist.

Although I despair of per una I do wear the ponte Roma rise trousers for work. They have some stretch so sometimes I have to size down but they stay up and I cover up the naff zips with my tops which have to be longer anyway.

this one is a no to my mind as although it seems as if it should work in it's shaping it even sticks to the models stomach.

Anna- the first lighter grey coat is from Jaeger outlet, the second charcoal one is Phase Eight.

Monsoon jumpers etc tend to work for apples but I personally like plainer stuff in more muted palettes. They are good for knitted dresses that suit apples though.

this one although expensive is lovely and would suit a lot of apples.

Crevice where is that coat from?

Has Monsoon changed? I never go in there as it always used to be 100% for hourglasses and it was just depressing to try stuff on.

Should we make a list of Apple friendly stores?

Monsoon is one for sure (groovy jumper by the way)
I also rate-

Phase Eight
Jigsaw
John Lewis Capsule
Next (although they have altered their sizing this year so the jury is out on them for all but a handful of things)
Boden (for casual tops- they can be too boxy though) def off duty jumper.
Autograph.
Jaeger.

I find trousers awkward. The combination of too baggy around the /arse hips or camel's hoof if trying to place them comfortably means I avoided them for years. For me now I wear jeggings/skinnies with stretch so they fit around my middle yet aren't baggy elsewhere. I always wear at least a thigh length top or a long layering vest and jumper over them so there is no danger of the hoof.

If you needed smart trousers (which I don't) then I would go to a grapper store and buy those half elasticated waist ones and make sure they fit on the hips etc and had stretch in the material. A side zip would be a bonus too 🙂 I I would them make sure the waistband never saw the light of day 😊

I have broad shoulders and ribs and narrow hips
I usually wear dresses because trousers don't stay up
I hate belt, they are so uncomfortable
How do you wear trousers?

I bought this jumper (Tess) in the Monsoon sale. I usually go for a v-neck to draw attention to my assets Wink and away from the jelly belly, but the patterning on this has the same effect and gives a slimming effect to a non-waist!

Great thread.

This looks amazingly slimming on, especially if you have a larger chest and want to hide your tummy a bit. It's the contrast in fabric and the triangle shape. I wear it with jeans as a top.

Oooooh! boyfriend shape cardigan sized gap in my closet. What do you recommend?

Agree re Off Duty jumper but the smaller sizes work better for me rather than the ones recommended for your size. The mediums are incredibly voluminous. Better in an small or x/small in my opinion and then they drape beautifully.

Can't wait until they are back in stock....

this coat does magical things for non-waisters. It is made with stretchy material so you don't get that trussed up coat feeling (which I loathe and makes previous coat buying expeditions dreaded episodes) and works with casual or smart stuff. I luffs it.

The Boden off duty jumpers are pricey but amazing shape with skinnies. Also loving a boyfriend shaped cardi.
Agree the marks and Spencer jeggings are fantastic and great value
