Scarves - are they a bit 'last year'?

I own a few spring/summer scarves. Some have skull prints which I won't wear anymore as I think have had their day.

I've just bought this

Here

Is it a bit 'dated' and if not, how do I wear it during summer (or do I save it for autumn)?

Thanks

FrugalFashionista "I had to check what DMBL40 is wearing. She used to be the queen of big scarves. I had to scroll back to April before I saw the first one..."

I had to google who that was as I don't follow fashion bloggers, but she's wearing a big animal print scarf with a striped blue/white shirt, jeans, and a khaki jacket. She's wearing typical school run clothes around here (minus expensive bag, giant glasses and silly pose). On 2 June.

Hardly trend setting stuff.

Zaza! Exactly. Actually more like the dad. Forgot he wore one. Resemblance is striking.

I love scarves both in summer and winter. I am so used to wearing a scarf I will get a sore throat if I go out without one on, even on a summer's evening. Maybe they're not good for your health either!Grin

I am wearing square silk scarves tied up on my neck. I am trying to channel grace Kelly but probably look more like the son in steptoe and son when he was tring to be posh.

Lesley I needed navy to go with a dark pink.
I wear scarves all the year round. I use them instead of jewellery as NewFlip but also to protect my horrible sun damaged neck from any more damage. (my skin will never look normal again)

And because I tend to feel the cold a lot.

Yes, re using to 'hide' boobage. That's why I like them.

I'm mid 50s and have been wearing summer scarves for 40 years so I hope they aren't too last year Smile. I wear them instead of jewellery and to drape over big boobs.

Oh and I still like scarves! I think it is part of my "hiding" mentality. By which I mean, not that I don't want to be seen, more that I just find it comforting to have things to snuggle into / hats to pull down / sunglasses to be behind.

Warm weather is a right bugger for me because I can't do that

those of you who don't give a rats arse abouts what's in style, style and beauty is a funny place to hang out

Not really. I'm uninterested in fashion, but I love clothes, make-up and skincare tips.

100% don't care if something is "now" or not, if I love it and it suits me I wear it Smile

Totally agree with what Squiz has said, so I won't repeat any of it!

I am very interested in clothes, and personal style, and how people choose to put things together, hence haunting S&B so much. I don't give a toss about whether some bloke in Milan, or whatever, has decreed that I should or shouldn't wear something.

I love scarves, have a whole cupboard dedicated to them. Today's scarf has a 50's sort of lucienne day style print in different shades of green. I don't tend to care about being on trend or whatever. I wear clothes that I like and that suit me.

Yes I wear the plain colours too cirrusblue so a scarf is a good way to add something.

I wear bare legs all year round and wool tights in the day in winter sometimes and against the MN rules I also love wearing fishnets in fashion or not

slightlyjaded I am the same with the small head and long neck so I wear scarves a lot. I think your proportions do come into it as to whether scarves suit you. Also I tend to wear plain coloured things, and have a winter colouring with a semi dramatic style and I find they are a great way of adding some pattern that includes bright, pale and dark contrasting colours that suit me near my face.

I'm 44 and have been wearing scarves most of my adult life. Mainly because I have a giraffe neck and a small head so need to balance it out but actually they've always been a thing not something new in the last few years.

I think the backlash is more against "I like this but can't be seen wearing it if it's last year ... what should I do?" (and people get frustrated saying 'just bloody wear it if you like it') which is completely different from "I wore this, the novelty has worn off, I like something new now". Smile

I take your point squizita.

There seems to be a bit of a backlash here when someone says that something is a bit last year. That's just human nature. We get tired if things and they become dated. It doesn't mean that were checking magazines to see if we can wear something. Eg skinny jeans. I like them but OMG I'm sick if them. I was ready for a change a couple if years ago but there was little else in the shops.

I love my scarves, usually have one at work as the aircon is always on and it's draughty. Scarves also mean I don't have to search for nice petite tops (aka hens teeth) as I can cover a slightly too low neckline with a scarf. I might be Mayor of Frumptown for this, but I care not. Grin

Burnished there's a huge difference between not being dictated to by mainstream/high street British fashion and not being interested in style.
People who wear niche styles, alternative styles, Asian women who wear Asian fashion, vintage dressers, classic dressers (to name a few) will all have an active interest in the elements of style - colour, shape, texture, what hair/make up to do but won't all be dressed the same.

There's nothing wrong with following fashion, but if it were a case of "check low brow fashion mag like In Style, buy what they say we should" there would be no need to have forums or skill.

It would be like barring anyone who doesn't cook the Saturday kitchen weekly recipes with ingredients from Waitress from a food forum (food having trends, seasons and classics).
