Black bra under white silk top?

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 06/06/2015 10:03

Is it sexy and cool (as the mags would have me believe) or "obvious and trashy" (as opined by the ladies on ask yahoo)? Have no idea whether it is still an "absolutely not!" in the real world.

I had no idea it would cause this much controversy! I chickened out and went for a nude coloured bra.

Night out, Yes. Work, No.

(I have been known to do this. Also black bra under black lacy top as well.)

Although the woman in the black leggings & shirt looks good I don't think she'd look good dressed like that going round Sainsbury's with a couple of toddlers or in an office. It looks very much like a going out for a drink in a scruffy bar in Mallorca where there aren't any flashing lights or tourists. Hard look to carry off in the UK.

I've seen some women pull it off. Skinny, gorgeous women who are otherwise dressed very stylishly.

It's like anything really.

It's skanky.
And I'm not averse to a bit of bra strap showing- I rarely wear white bras as the straps go grey but wear lacy ones with colourful straps.

Any sheer summer top is going to expose your bra straps, so I like to show that I am properly boobed-up and supported.

I typically like to wear a nice clean white bra, and I ensure the band is horizontal and my straps are vertical, with no twists. I don't want people to speculate that I am in the wrong size or that I didn't take care to fasten it properly!

I like to feel confident that I am firmly presented, with no risk of my boobs slipping out or mystraps slipping off. A visible back band and straps are then of no consequence.

I do personally think a bit of lived in eyeliner a la Chrissie IS minimal make up but each to their own.

Meh, I do it, I like it, I sure ain't under 20.

I also wear vests with a huge cut away arm hole that show off a whole lot of bra, or tops with low loose scoops that reveal the top of a bra, it's not tit, so don't see what the problem is, people can see your bra? Shock horror I am wearing a bra.

Actually don't see the problem if you can see tits either, but I have very irritable nipples they would hate chaffing against a top Grin

No, it looks common, no matter what colour the lip is.

Ok, I'll stop after this one,
but I have a small chest which 'helps', I think it makes the 'look' less sexualised perhaps and the shirt/bra isn't straining at all.

Also, white is not 'invisible' and that annoys me. Everyone can see it. It looks bad.

I do it. I'm slim, and 21 though if that helps... Blush

I also believe that black is better than any other colour showing through. It either has to be nude (i.e invisible) or black and plain, no lace etc, otherwise it does look accidental 'got dressed in the dark' or 'rough'. Also I wear it with a loose chiffon shit buttoned to the top and the rest of 'my look' toned down.

Reminds me of being 15 and thinking it was cool to have my denim Wonderbra showing under my white school shirt.

It wasn't cool then. It certainly isn't cool now, however much you try and "channel Chrissie Hynde."
It just looks a bit "mum trying too hard to look sexy in a Yates' wine lodge while drinking bad rose and dancing round her bag to Mark Ronson."

Saurus72 I have had that experience except it was red and the "advisor" was literally falling out of her top !! Classy (not)

It just screams: 'hey everyone, look at my bra'

Make up needs to be minimal (but a red lip is allowed) and hair undone.
Hideously pretentious Grin

Black skinny jeans, black heels, black bra, white / cream silk blouse can look amazing for evening. Make up needs to be minimal (but a red lip is allowed) and hair undone. Channel Kate Moss or Chrissie Hynde. Amazing.

"A red lip is allowed". Just the one red lip then? What is the penalty for two?

had to snigger at the thought of Chrissie Hynde having "minimal makeup". That would be the same Chrissie Hynde whose trademark was black eyeliner?

What genius to have matching bra and shoes though!

A black bra under a white see through top is definitely NOT better than a white bra showing Hmm.

Not sexy. Not cool.
Tacky and makes the wearer look like a twat who fancies themselves.
