Boden Rainy Day Mac (plaid print) Does anyone have any reviews?

Well, I had a gift voucher and thought I'd wait for a discount day and then splurge on a winter raincoat as I'm not convinced I'll need a heavy duty wool coat this winter.

The mac arrived and it's lovely quality and everything plus the print is fab although very bright ... ... but to be honest the fabric just does not look like it would last a rain shower let alone a torrential one (I'm talking 'Pennine rain' here for anyone up north who remembers how torrential and soaking this can be).

It's an incredibly expensive purchase even with the gift voucher part payment, so does anyone have any reviews/views on this item? I'm aware Mumsnet seems to be heavily advertising this brand but hopefully I can get some real opinions not just reps from LiveWorld.

My rainy day mac needs cleaning. I was thinking of washing it the machine as it isn't very waterproof anymore. I do like it and wear it a lot but I would probably buy a longer, more durable coat next time. I agree about the size of the hood; it needs to be bigger.

I've had one for about 4 years. It is ok in drizzle but in heavy rain it leaks through all the seams. It still looks fine though and has worn well.

I've replaced it with a merrell duffle coat which is amazingly waterproof but v warm. More of a winter coat that is good in the rain than a spring/summer raincoat.

I do love mine though - it is so lightweight but warm. I hate heavy winter coats. The fleecy pocket linings are great and means I hardly wear gloves. I have just washed mine in the machine (against the label's strict instructions) and squirted with Nikwax. May be the undoing of the coat! When it was new (last year) water (light rain) beaded off quite nicely, but it has stopped now. I will report back with results!

I think I'm going to be returning it based on some other reviews I've just read too. Theoretically I could bung some nixwax all over it to waterproof it properly but the fabric may not support it :(

What a shame, you'd think for that price they could make it GoreTex'd too.

I did consider the Seasalt one but didn't have a gift voucher for it, else I would have. It gets good rain reviews and the print is more restrained which I also like. I've been bowled over by this Boden plaid print but ultimately, it's not a raincoat it's a fashion statement first. Pah!

Anyone want to swap my Boden voucher for a Seasalt one so I can buy this !

I love mine....and use an umbrella! which I know completely defeats the object I wouldn't say it's any more than shower resistant..it's the nicest coat I've ever owned though, so it's not going back!

I have one from last season and it's shower resistant NOT waterproof.

It's lovely and nice in 'normal' rain - but got soaked through last time I was in a downpour.

I would return it and buy a proper waterproof for the same price from SeaSalt.

I bought a Boden Rainy Day Mac a few years ago, and was thoroughly disappointed by its performance in anything more than the lightest of showers, especially for the price (I think I had a thread about it on here at the time!)
I did keep mine (I'd got it in their sale, and it was a lovely cheery print fabric), but I also bought a full-on Lands End stadium squall coat - not so pretty, but definitely waterproof and very warm.

The sleeve length is also fantastic. I'm relatively taller than average at five nine with longish arms and the cuffs are almost over the start of my hands which is just perfect.

Length is a few inches above knee, I'd be optimistic hoping for a raincoat to fit at knee length or below I suppose :/

The fleece lining doesn't extend to the inner sleeves.

The hood does not fully come forward enough to shelter the face. Design error there. I don't have a large head.

Mine is waterproof to a degree but leaks after heavy rain, esp round the seams.
