Find me a new perfume!

I have struggled with perfumes since losing my "nose" for them during pregnancy a few years ago. I still wear some but would live to find one I love again.

I know that I like warm, comforting vanilla scents. As a student I adored Angel but dropped it when it became so popular. In the past I've also liked Chanel Chance, Guerlain Insolence, Stila Creme Bouquet and Balenciaga Cristobal but went off them a bit in pregnancy.

I have been trying more sophisticated, less puddingy scents - but they're just not really me, nice though they are.

I wear Tobacco Vanille at the moment, but find it's a bit heavy for daylight hours.

Siuggestions would be much appreciated - thanks!

Mona di Orio's Les Nombres d'Or Vanille is my ultimate (££) vanilla.
Also, if you like Tobacco Vanille, try Tabacca by Costamor. Sexy rummy-vanilla pirate wench.

Thanks everyone - I didn't realise I'd had all these replies.

I spent hours today sniffing perfumes and ended up buying Serge Lutens Datura Noir and Van Cleef's Orchidée Vanille. Very happy although my nose had had enough by the end of the day!

For those with similar tastes, I also liked Givenchy's Dahlia Divin, Elie Saab Couture, D&G The One, and D&G's Velvet Tender Oud.

I still love Angel and I also like Chance so I guess our tastes might be similar - I suggest you try Lolita Lempicka (the original one in a lime green box with a purple, apple shaped bottle). You can pick it up really cheaply on amazon and it is a delicious smell, very unusual, sort of sweet but licquoricey? I have had so many compliments on it from both men and women, yet it is relatively unpopular/unknown. It's good for everyday wear. Do you like Allure? Allure Sensuelle is very nice, a bit different from the popular 'original' Allure. I have also recently started wearing Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir, although it's not my absolute favourite - nice for daytime/work but I wouldn't use it for evening.

I also like Vivienne Westwood 'Boudoir', which is floral but sexy, and

My current favourites are L'eau de Chloe and Balenciaga Rosabotanica.
I like sweet, Palma Violet type scents.

To be honest it is much much harder to try to find a perfume WITHOUT vanilla in it. I despair sometimes... Hate that 'cakeshop' smell.....

Eau Duelle by Diptyque - comforting vanilla
Elixir des Merveilles by Hermes - sweet and biscuity
Poudre de Riz by Huitième Art Parfums - soft and close

Le Labo Vanille 44 is lovely, but pricey. Hermes Vanille Galante is gorgeous too. Much lighter than the Le Labo.

You'll might like 4160 Tuesday's scents in particular 'what we did on our holidays' and 'The sexiest scent in the world ever imo'. Both are warm and welcoming scents with a vanilla note. You can get samples of both at Les scenteurs.

You might like Alien by Thierry Mugler (the creator of Angel). I recently smelled it on someone at the gym, and had to ask what it was. I'd describe it as warm and sweetish; a bit too much so for me, but it smelled gorgeous on her.

Try "L'Air du Desert Marocain". It's amber, warm, sophisticated - and a bit of a mumsnet favourite. You can get a tester from Les Senteurs if you don't live in London. Google Les Senteurs - they are worth it.
Are you sure your old "nose" has come back, though? It took a while for me to be able to cope with anything that wasn't a citrus scent after pregnancy. 11 years on and musky still make me feel unwell.
Good luck.Smile

Thanks, I will look out for the Serge Lutens.

I have a LM (Creme Brûlée, I think) but for me it tips over into a delicious but literally foodie smell. When it settles down, it gets there, but for a while it does smell like I've bathed in Creme brûlée not necessarily a bad thing...

I'm reminded of this by the poster looking for an M&S scent. Sadly, M&S have stopped stocking it but it's an absolute bargain for the quality - delicious, warm, vanilla-y goodness.

Serge Luten's "Un Bois Vanille" may be worth a sniff - warm vanilla with a toasty, woody edge.
