Trend for weather/tv presenters to wear very tight clothes. Am I just old?

Is it just me? Even on these slim women, doesn't seem to be a good luck. Tell me I am not alone in these thoughts! Please.

I'd like to have real meteorologists presenting the weather, not so-called autocuties
Autocuties! Blimey I've not heard that term being used probably since 2014 , which was around the time this thread began!!
I thought most of them were anyway or at least had a good working knowledge eg Environmental science degree or similar.
What difference does it make if it is not a trained meteorologist?
They are passing on the same information as Tomaz Schaffernaker!!

I’ve got no knowledge of this at all but I’m guessing that fitted/bodycon looks neater on screen than more flowing styles. I agree though that still wearing bodycon in 2021 looks really dated. I like Jane Hill and Kate Silverton’s styles - less tight fitting and in my view stylish.

I didn't notice the date on this thread & was just about to post about how old fashioned they look trussed up in those dresses! 🤣

But they do still wear them and I have no idea why!

I noticed in the 'Finding Derek' documentary earlier in the week Kate Garraway turned up at work in a really lovely modern dress and then went out to present in one of those bodycon things! It must be like a uniform!

You gave flipcharta bit of a roasting there! Were body con dresses still a thing in 2014? Possibly?😂😂

Ooops didn't realise this was a zombie thread!

@flipchart

I can't get worked up over this. The fashion generally is for bod con dresses. They look up to date, their figures suit it in the whole. The main thing for me is about the forecast and outlook.

Why the fuck do you all care what people are wearing?

One person' s classy is another persons tacky.

I think it's awful that you come on here bitching about someone's style.
Each to their own and all that.

This is the style and beauty board Grin
But your comment that body con dresses are in fashion (they are the opposite of what is in fashion) does show you are not interested in style/fashion so I expect you probably need to catch up!

Blimey Boobear7 what made you resurrect a 7 year old thread!

I didn't notice that, how strange so many look the same as 7 yrs ago 😆

It does matter, because women are held to a stupid standard. Can you imagine most of the male presenters in body con clothes?! From what I can see I bet they don't feel the same pressure to stay thin. Those dresses are nasty looking and oppressive to boot. The women always look like they are holding their tummies in. Rediculous. ( Not them, the whole thing!)

There must be a secret boutique where female presenters and news anchors buy their clothes: enough synthetic fibre to constitute a fire hazard, awful colour blocking and soooo tight. Then they do the wafty arms thing.

@AnyFucker

It's kinda the raison d'etre of the S+B board.

And for someone who doesn't care too much, flip you seem a trifle overwrought Smile

Saving this for work. "You seem a trifle overwrought." Great for management!

I've noticed this for years! I don't get as bodycon hasn't been a thing for over a decade.

Only just noticed the previous thread about the weather girls and it seems nothing has changed - still the same awful body con dresses. I would love to know though weather Carol Kirkwood wears a special type of corset under her dresses because she looks impossibly small and flat round her waist and tummy compared to the rest of her!
Only TV presenter who has any sense of style is Naga.

Agree about the sexualisation of everything: you see this at every conference I go to now as well. Men wear nice flattering and comfortable suits.

Angelina Jolie looked really good in that trouser suit at the Baftas. Shows that covering up can be just as stylish.

The BBC Scotland weather woman who was wearing such a tight dress on Friday that you could see how ill fitting her bra was. It looked so uncomfortable!
Look at my bra and not the huge storm rolling in from the Atlantic. Perhaps the clothes are a diversion tactic.

I'm with you, Sans. I've been looking at American workwear street-style photos - short and tight is commonly seen. Umm, no. Ditto to those super high or open toed shoes. Send sexy back home, it's not for work. Well, not the kind of work I've ever done [sniffs like a nanna]

I am always surprised by how 'evening' hair styles are on guests and even some of the local news presenters.

Sans somehow I missed your post (doh). I think you are right, yes, and it bothers me, that we are in the 21st century, and this is how it is!

I know it's a fairly trivial subject as things go, but I think it does matter in a way what they wear. Aren't we commenting about the creeping sexualisation of everything?

[Apart from the Countryfile chap of course.]

I honestly never notice.

I'm too busy glaring at DH, who has a Becky Mantin fetish and goes all gooey when she comes on. Hmm

It's more a comment on the changes over the years I think. It used to be suits, then jumpers on breakfast TV.

Report

Nah, I'm not overwrought, I'm just flicking through MN before work and looking at all the bitchy comments thinking there's no need and does it really matter what they are wearing in general.

And I don't get the comment very early on that some laughed that the Countryfile presenter did the weather in an open neck shirt!
