Another thread looking for HoC advice for a pale skinned winter

Hi,

I have just read the thread about fake tan on pale skinned winter colourings...I had my colours done last week and have been told I am a bright jewel winter (verging on sultry winter). Am really happy with the 'diagnosis' and could easily see how much better the colours made me look. I am also a big lipstick fan so am confident wearing deep reds/fuchsias on my lips. I have very pale skin, freckles and very pale blue eyes. My eyebrows and eyelashes are naturally almost very dark ash brown.

My question is about my hair really. I am naturally light brown (was very blonde as a child) and for a long time have had light ash blonde highlights in my hair. When I have read the literature from HoC when I got home it states that winters shouldn't have highlights as it adds summer round your face. Am now a bit unsure if I should change my hair colour - have had darker ash brown hair before and while I liked it, everyone I knew felt the need to comment on how much better they liked the blonde. So my question is really - is it possible to keep the highlights/be a blonde winter or do all winters look better with darker hair. Would it help if I put a photo on my profile? (am slightly terrified someone might know me...)

Thanks!

I did it today! After 22 years of blonde highlights, I am now a brunette!!! Everyone said I look younger, my skin looks clearer and my eyes really big and dark. I am finding it difficult to adjust and feel that my hair belongs to someone else, but I can see that I look better. So I would say, trust your colour analysis!

Thanks everyone - I'll have a look at that link Gabaccia

I'll have to have a big think before going to the hairdressers. I think Hopefully is right in that people don't like change and get used to seeing you a certain way. My hair gets blonde highlights naturally in the sun so I have always just gone for that lightened look (apart from when I had pink hair...)

Might be brave and put a photo on my profile later so you lot can give me your opinion on what you think would suit me. Its funny - having my colours done has given me more confidence in terms of clothes and make up but has given me a complex about my hair!

Just realised 'dark ash brown' maybe doesn't make sense as a hair colour?! I just mean my hair is dark, but not that lovely rich chestnut brown some people have.

Hi JimJam! I'm a jewel winter too, also verging on sultry, but have dark ash brown hair, dark greeny brown eyes and very pale skin. Highlights looked awful on me.

Anyway, I found this the other day which has some pictures and advice for blonde winters. Click around the site a bit because there are other blonde winters too, not just the one featured on that page.

As you were blonde as a child, I can see that blonde might suit you now, if it's a proper Wintery ash blonde. It seems so unfair that most blondes gradually go brown as they get older!

Worth keeping in mind that people we know often find it a bit weird if we change hair colour/start wearing lipstick/make other changes to our appearance. Their mental image is of the old you, so they don't like the new you because it's a big scary change. A couple of weeks in and they'll have forgotten entirely.

Winters aren't exclusively dark, but as a general rule of thumb, lightening dark hair on a winter doesn't improve things, it can soften and 'blur' their striking look.

Thanks I will do. It sounds complicated as my hair is bleached (think Jennifer Anniston) and I will need several visits to darken gradually.

Maraki - make sure the brown is a cool shade - so many hairdressers get it wrong and it comes out slightly reddish.

I am a burnished winter and had blond highlights for 22 years! I have booked an appointment to go brown for Friday and I am terrified of the change. I shall report back (if I go ahead with it that is....)

Ohh! I'm a jewel winter as well! It's nice to hear of others as all my friends who have been analysed are springs and autumns.

I was advised by my HoC consultant to change my hair colour to ash / beige, rather than the golden blonde I am, so I spoke to my hairdresser at the last trim and she suggested a colour. Just need to book it now!

I'm a clear winter. I've had blonde highlights for the last 3 years and this week I went dark again. I can see that brunette works best for me, but you may be different. I'd ask your consultant :)

I would keep your ash blonde highlights and check with your HoC consultant before making any changes.
