Eyebrow pencil or powder??

I have medium brown hair and black eyebrows. They are a bit patchy which is always noticeable to me on photos. I have tried using a dark grey pencil on them but its not a good match and I wondered if anyone had recommendations? The pencils I've seen all tend to be brown shades rather than black, but I've heard people rave about powders - does anyone have any faves? Either pencils or powders!

Yeah, it's not like a tattoo really, it's much more subtle and it only lasts about a week so ideally you should learn to do it yourself at home so you don't have to faff around with salons so often.

Oh, does it? I assumed ypu had to go down the tattooing route for that. How long does it last? My brows are more skin than hair though. I have got very good at pencilling them in and don't mind doing it, it is just the fear of rubbing part of it off and not realising.

WhoKnows, it tints the skin as well so it gives the illusion of a fuller brow.

I haven't got enough to be worth tinting Sad.

I can do eyebrow tinting if you're in my area, I'll only charge you a fiver. Grin

I tint at home and love the results.

I like my eyebrow shape and the tint just accentuates them.

Powder or pencil would be a faff for me and I would end up looking like Lord knows what.

I use a kit called 1000 Lashes (for brows and lashes)

Cheap as chips from any chemist Smile

I use a stiff brush and an ancient mink coloured estee lauder eyeshadow then use a clear mascara over the top. I've got dark brown hair and fullish brows.

Well, I went into House of Fraser today and splashed out on the Bobbi Brown pencil in Brunette (Mahogany was too red for me). It's lovely, a really natural look on me. Rubs off very easily though.

I love the Benefit brow powder set

Brow central here. Had mine threaded today, regular maintainance, saves me time in looking a little more together! I use a Clinique brow pencil, which I replaced today also, they've added another end to it with a highlighter - we like. When I'm going out for the evening I use my Mac brow pencil/brow shadow combo for a stronger look.

I can't get on with powders, they just aren't defined enough and look very obvious in the gaps. Pencil strokes are better. I've got a Gosh brow pen which is waterproof, but too red on it's own, I use a bit over the Rimmel pencil to give it greater staying power.

Cannot recommend Benefit browzings enough.

I would always use powder (either eyeshadow or a specific brow powder) and an angled brush - an eyeliner brush (the flat blade-shaped ones) or an eybrow one (smashbox do a great one but I am sure there are Boots/SD similar if that's a faff/too ££). Pencil - uness it's super-powdery - gives you an unconvincing arc line if you're not very skilled or artistic. Powder on a brush lets you sketch in eyebrow-effect where needed. Also definitely avoid anything warm/gold/red as it outshines your real brows.

I've got the opposite problem - medium brown hair and lighter eybrows - and most eyebrow shades are too dark for me so I hope you have better luck! Both everyday minerals (lasts for ever) and smashbox work for me in the lightest shades.

mrsmeow what is HD? In the meantime I have ordered a brow kit from ELF as I needed some of their mineral powder and the kit was cheap as chips and had fairly good reviews. Ooh and there's a free 'mystery bag' if you spend £15. I am a sucker for a freebie...

I have found myself noticing people's brows much more today - and I have seen some shockers! I'm not keen on the 'totally filled in look like stick-on brows' look which seems popular with youngsters today....showing my age [buhmm]

I have the same colouring as you and swear by the HD brows pallette in 'Vamp' which is 3 powders in varying browns and one cream coloured highlighter shadow. The powders contain some kind of wax so there's no faff, just brush it on and you're done. It says put until you wash it off too.

It's honestly worth a try - I'd never filled my eyebrows in before I tried this and I can not believe what a difference it makes to my face! I have the Benefit browzings one as well but find it quite orangey and more waxy than powder so it doesn't look as subtle on me.

I think someone here said once that it depends on your skin type to see what'll suit you best. Normal/dry skin types tend to get on well with pencil, oilier skins suit the wax and powder of the eyebrow kits as they don't slide off so easily.

That's ok, I'm so grateful the hair came back that gappy eyebrows seem a small worry. I have tried lots of things for them as I do feel a bit self conscious about them though, especially since I grew my fringe out. they seem to look different every day when pencilled in, hence considering tattooing

It didn't work for me Brunella. I had alopecia a few years ago and although my head hair came back the eyebrows have never recovered.

I have really patchy eyebrows. Recently discovered bobbi brown natural brow shaper - it's like a small mascara. Looks very natural and makes your eyebrows look really well groomed. You can apply more coats depending how dark you want to go. One of my best finds!

Mine are too gappy for tinting to be any use, I keep thinking about tattoong but am a bit chicken about it.

ilovemydog I get them threaded and tinted brown once a month ish at Benito in Debenhams. It's £18 but you can advance purchase so it's cheaper. You can buy home tint but I haven't tried it yet.
