Mid-priced facial moisturiser for REALLY dry skin?

I have been spoiled by a free sample of Clarins Hydraquench for cold climates but at £34 that's not an option for me. It was rich, creamy and I woke up with peachy skin. Is there a cheaper one out there that has the same effect?
I've tried:
Ponds
Lancome
Jason aloe vera
Nivea
Boots botanics
Simple
Lidl Q10

and they're too perfumed and thin and in fact don't make a difference at all. I'd love to hear of one that works! Had a look on here for dry skin threads and didn't find any answers. Cheers!

I would second the Bodyshop Vit E Intense cream too. My Mum has very dry skin, and she uses the Bodyshop Wisewoman serum underneath which I sometimes pinch which smells divine.
Eating lots of avocados is good for your skin :)

Mendi I tried the toner for the first time and I had a definite 'prickle' not sure I'll use it again, it seems very harsh. It's either the toner or the New moisturiser which I will try on it's own today and see if it's ok. The Cicaplast is fine!

I too am hoping Pierre Fabre is a genius of a wizened old French molecular scientist (Avene) after buying the skin recovery cream. I also bought some A-derma skin repair cream (same parent company I think) and after 3 days am quite surprised at my skin. It's soft and non-flaky and would buy it again. I reacted to the Avene anti-rougers and also LRP hydraphase moisturiser but not the Anthelios sunscreen so it's all trial and error with me.

Valium that's hilarious! I've gone for Avène as Boots only had it and not LRP and am a bit alarmed by the previous poster's L'Oreal story. I am hoping that Avène is hand-churned by shepherds using spring water from the Rhone Valley

I used the face wash for the first time earlier and was very impressed. It left my skin looking as clean as when I use Liz Earle C&P and didn't feel dry and tight after drying like usual. I used the toner this morning after cleansing and it was ok...but just ok. Just felt like water to be honest so I think I'll stick with my Liz Earle instant boost stuff.

at night I use this, tis yum and seriously cures my dry days after my salycici acid peel... one extreme of high chemical to another pure virgin oil, its also great for hair and lots of other stuff.

Try La Roche Posay Toleraine Ultra. Very rich and soothing, comes in a great pump bottle. I also like Avene.

Just want to add: La Roche Posay has destroyed my face! On day 2 of allergic reaction to Cicaplast now and it feels as though the top layer of my skin's been peeled off. One side of my face is so swollen that I can't open my eye properly. Worst of all, I emailed L'Oreal (which owns LRP) yesterday about this, with photos, and haven't had so much as an acknowledgement!

Eucerin Aquaporin Rich. No perfume, I never react to it (and I react to all kinds of "sensitive skinsafe products" - my dermatologist recommended it.

I know it's not the popular option but yellow Clinique moisturizer has always been my favorite. The big bottle lasts ages and they're forever giving free samples. I've never found anything nicer for dry sensitive skin.

Body Shop Hemp cream here, sinks in well and softens skin.

Also, try using half a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil as a wash off cleanser - it is lovely and also melts away mascara etc.

CravingSunshine, no I just had a look at the products in store. It did take a while as its a French brand so you have to look hard to find the English description (or be able to read French!) but the one I chose is more of an intensive cream rather than a daily moisturiser- although my skin was dry enough to need the extra help if that makes sense? Although its miles better now, I'm still using it twice a day and its keeping my skin at a 'normal' level. You only need a tiny bit so a tube will last a long time and I find that it sinks in v quickly so can put makeup on straightaway.

I probably sound like I'm on commission - I'm not! I'm just so pleased to have found something that really works. I'm such an advertising execs dream, willing to try anything and I've spent £££ recently but things seem to work for a few days and then stop, or just don't work for me at all.

Hi, I'm currently trying Body Shop vit E intensive - it's good but slightly disappointing. Waiting for some Liz Earle stuff to arrive in the post so will let you know what that's like.

I use the Clarins Santal oil and have done for years. I have very dry skin and it really helps. It also smells fantastic.

For daytime I use Bioderma Hydrabio Riche - I think you can only get it in France, or online from France, but it absolutely transformed my skin. I bulk buy it when I go on holiday. It's only about a tenner.

Weleda rose cream - same as dr haushka but loads cheaper - or weleda almond cream - which is fab for über dry skin
