Has anyone bought from Nordstrom? And what do you think of this dress?

here its for a wedding in the spring. I am 5'2", a size 6-8 with longish red hair and pale skin. I look dreadful in prom style dresses, pencil shape is much better for me.

the wedding is a friend who is also an ex, so I will know all his family etc and its always a bit odd being at an ex's wedding, so I really want to look good. I've never bought from overseas (well, not clothes) before. any tips?

I buy in the USA regularly, and am an British size 8. I always find the USA size 4 fits me perfectly. Nordstrom's usually sell good quality stuff.

I would go with the first dress, if you suit the colour then it is definately the nicest.

This one looks nice in the flesh but not seen it in navy.

Thecat, oh would you? That would be marvellous, thank you.

Think the purple Ramona one is the best - looks very sexy without trying too hard.

I'm going to Nordstrom tomorrow. Want me to see if I can find it and tell you what the quality is like?

I've never bought bad anything at Nordstrom btw. It's a great shop.

I think a day trying on dresses would be your best bet. I would not do mail order as it all depends on the fit.

I love antique lace. Not a big fan of velvet though.

Oh I LOVE lace. Lace on slim ladies looks awesome - no squashed-sausage look pour vous. Thick, luxe lace can be v sexy but still chic. Same for velvet - tight velvet also fab on slim bods.

Could I wear lace? I found a lovely maggy london petite dress which is like a vv pale pink.

Ooooh, that sounds perfect. I like capped sleeves, look awful in strapless.

I can't find any links that are good enough to show you - but I think you should play up what you have - which is the teeny size (which woman wouldn't kill to be so slim?!) and accentuate that. I was looking for fitted lace with sheer/capped sleeves (I bet you have toned arms?). But in a kick-ass colour. Something like Kylie or Vic Beckham would wear - fitted but demure. The dress that Jess Ennis wore to the Sports Personality thing would be great (too long, but that sort of ohdoIlookfabulousIbarelytried look. I'll keep searching - but for me, satin and Hendricks is not going to make the best of what you got

Satin looks like such a cheap fabric; wouldn't waste my cash on it!

My actual shape is hourglass, but I get what you're saying. I like purple and berry red.

I don't like the one in your OP, sorry. I think it would be an awkward length if you're 5'2, and I think if you're channelling Christina Hendricks (very curvy, size 14, va-va-voom), I'm afraid a size 6/8 is going to look a bit silly in comparison. A bit teenage boy-ish. Sorry.

I think you should go chic and elegant - you really don't want to look like you've tried so hard. OTT is not cool.

Love the idea of emerald, but so often done on redheads (I am one too). Purple is great - as is berry. Not red-red, more purple-red.
