In a bid to make myself feel a WHOLE LOT BETTER I want to hear how y'all got on in the shops today.
Me? total failure. Why why oh why do I always assume Top Shop is going to cut it for my almost-40 year old form.
Suffice to say whole retail experience totally depressing. Actually came hone and binned my bra because it looked so awful and ill-fitting in the changing rooms.

Not going to shop in my town anymore..all it consists of is the low budget fast fashion chains....WAAAAILL!!!!!

so come on, good day or bad day (if u shopped)?

TK Maxx seem well worth checking out but I can't find tights on their website. Does anyone know whether they sell hosiery online?

Not this weekend, but during the week I had some shopping success - went to DVF sample sale and bought red leopard print silk wrap top and a slinky burgundy pencil skirt with rose gold zips down each side. Also got a lovely cashmere mix cardi for my mum's birthday today.

Then I nipped to Knightsbridge and bought these little beauties!

Good shopping this week
A pair of skinny Jeans from Miss Selfridge, don't normally go in there, far too old... But... Was in a dpt store & walked through their concession & thought I would try them...they look fab, £39
I also went to the mint velvet concession & got a short sleeve sparkly tunic, it's more like a long jumper in pinks/greens/Golds.
Looks really good on Smile

I don't know it just looks so ordinary in the one link I've found I'll be killed Grin

I do love it though. Am at a party right now

Not wearing dress but lame Halloween costume, ie dh's rock tshirt and high black boots, bit of smudge on eyes. Low effort

Anyway I digress

Love that jumper Mosschops30. It looks lovely and warm.

How long is it? I'm 5ft 3 so don't like my jumpers too long.

Someone mentioned Falke tights - TXMaxx have them. I saw nude, black, purple and blue in the Merry Hill store the other week (sadly they were small/med and wouldn't be long enough for me).

I have bought some lovely DKNY chocolate brown tights from there that look and feel like they will last forever - £4, rrp $20, and they are just fab.

Oh, and two pairs of House of Holland suspender tights, the plain and the pearl. £4 each, rrp £18 I think. A little chavtastic but I'll probably wear them this winter and feel sinful :)

Thanks Ujayii and ADifferentKindof. Sadly M&S only do black. Yes, it might be Falke. I've a pair of black tights from a few years ago but they drive me nuts as they're not long enough on the leg. Guess that's what's putting me off but might invest anyway though have splurged big-time in last week so need to sneak postman past DH [hwink].

Millie Falke are very dear its true but they will last you YEARS..i have pairs from way back, no bobbling, stretching etc. Wash and wear really well. Can recommend the investment.

Mosschops love the Fat Face jumper. Which colour did you go for?

Report
ujjayi · 27/10/2012 22:20

Millie I bought them from M&S Autograph range. Not sure if they have wine though. TK Maxx often have a good range of Falke tights.

Ujjayi - where did you find merino tights? I've spent the last hour searching and can only find Falke. Not sure I want to spend that much and also looking for a wine/burgundy colour so proving difficult. Thanks

ADifferentKindOfMum - I was organised this season and bought basics - tees and merino tights - way back in September. Otherwise I spend way too many mornings in front of the wardrobe thinking "if only I had a (insert relevant basic here) that dress would look perfect". I think having a strong sense of your personal style helps because you instinctively hone in on items which suit. I find the high street very bland on the whole but I do find occasional gems in H&M, Topshop & Zara.

Alemci I am so with you on the acrylic issue. It is vile and I cannot wear it. I have found Celtic Sheepskin to be good for wool and wore a new Uniqlo merino knit for the first time today which was fab.

Report
alemci · 27/10/2012 21:28

why are all the woolies made of acrylic. Even if something is part wool it is about 8% and most of them go bobbly before even being washed. Some of the knitwear is so expensive.

I really despair of our high street...a Gap opened a few years ago and it wasn't even there 1 year I don't think. Its all Poundlands (brilliant for everything but clothes!) and mobile phone shops. Every time I go and get stuff in Primark or New Look within about 3 months its got the usual hole which turns into a big tear etc etc. Its just such a false economy IMHO. I am about 50 minutes from Westfield but with Dc's that takes planning....

I bought some navy jeans from River Island, reduced from £30 to £20.
An Oasis red dress reduced to £20, and a thin jumper reduced to £15.

And some black knee timberland boots - I've given up the search for grey boots and they were so comfy when I put them on, and fit my legs well. Sold!

I also went into Miss Selfridge and realised that as everyone in there looked about 18, and I remembered the song they were playing when the original was released about 15 years ago, that I was in the wrong shop for a 31 year old.

ujjayi what a magnificant haul! Not a basic in sight!

lowercase my local Hennes is SOOO bad. I don't know what they do but all the clothes are creased up in a way that even the COATS which, lets face it are pretty thick material, have massive creases down the front. It really puts me off. (massively hard to please alas!)

Have just packed out my Cos shopping bag so any chance of a code anyone before I check out? Please please?

Agree with Hopefully re online shopping. Or, if time allows, go shopping on a monday morning - tis lovely and quiet and you don't feel that pressure to find something that a busy saturday will always induce. I hate that panicked feeling blended with total and utter "why do I look so shit" feeling that you get so I stay well clear of the high street at the weekend.

Personally, I had a brilliant day. Went to my local antiques & vintage clothing store and bought a beautiful authentic 70s midi skirt with an amazing print. A previous owner has embellished it with the occasional sequin which has made it look truly stunning and doesn't detract from the original. Looking forward to wearing with boots and a long sleeve tee for the winter :) I am also considering a beautiful vintage mink cape which they had - although I had my heart set on a bracelet length sleeve rather than a cape.

Well, I couldn't fit in a pair of jeans I wanted today so have decided that it is due to pre-menstrual bloat rather than chocolate digestive overdose.
Most useful purchase was Epsom salts as my athletes foot has returned.
