What is your clothes budget?

Mine isn't very big; I'd say maybe £50 per month, most of which is spent in Primark, or very occasionally TopShop.

So many people seem to have such big clothing budgets and it makes me wonder how they can afford it. I follow several style and clothing blogs each week and all the writers seem to have vast amounts of money to spend on clothes.

How much do you spend per month?

Actually, longer than I originally said - have just ensued work clothes I am bored of/aren't my style, and most of them are 6-8 years old.

I spend £200-300 per month on a couple of items, more during sales. Same as Amber.

Big wave to MrsCB - did you keep the Me&Em jacket? I ordered it too but didn't love it so back it went.

I buy lots of kids stuff, mostly marks and Spencer's, generally in the sale. This month I have bought myself two dresses, one £69, one £45, a cardigan coat £45, suede high heals, £55, Freya underwear , £35. I also am on the look out for a new winter work coat, but that will have to wait until next month as I refuse to buy clothes on credit.

I buy as and when.
I spent £600 on 3 pairs of boots last month, but that is it for shoes now till next May.
I probably spend £250 a month on clothes.

There was a thread on this in early July, when I totted up everything I'd bought since January, and it did scare me a bit - it was $1065, which is about 660 pounds. Since then I've spent $380, which is about 240 pounds. So averaging about 100 pounds a month, but not specifically budgeted for, and I tend to buy in splurges rather than regularly. And that doesn't include haircuts and colour and makeup, skincare stuff etc. But I try not to buy things at full price and I have put on weight so needed things in new sizes.

I need to buy some new T shirts and tops, as I've started noticing holes in lots of things recently, and maybe a new pair of shoes and a party dress. But that will probably be all until the end of this year.

less than £300 per year. Twice a year I will take DD to get clothes as she has got to the age where she likes to choose. She will only wear boys stuff so I make sure they are good quality so they can be passed on to DS, maybe £200 twice a year?

I started keeping a list in january of what I buy for me and the children.

So far since January I've spent £1400 on me alone!

I don't actually know where it goes. I tend to shop a fair bit In the spring and again in the autumn and then a few times throughout the year for Xmas party stuff, wedding outfits etc. I don't buy expensive things but not primark stuff either. most of my stuff costs anywhere from 20 to 40 for casual stuff depending on what it is. My problem is our work is casual/smart which means I seem to buy a lot of stuff to wear to work as I get fed up of seeing the same outfits so much. This winter I also would like three pairs of new boots and a winter coat which has busted any budget I have. In my defence I don't spend much on my hair or beauty stuff and very rarely go out so don't buy much going out stuff, it's just daytime stuff and basics.

I also spend a lot on the kids hence why I've started the list in a bid to see where I actually spend the money and cut down.

I don't have a budget. I literally haven't bought any this year. Not because I can't afford to, I just seem to have plenty of clothes already and haven't needed anything.
Also everything is so expensive I always think 'well yes that's nice but I'd rather spend the money on quilting fabric/books/chicken wire/expensive balsamic vinegar' or whatever other luxury I am into at the time.
I went to stay with my parents in the summer and came back with a load of clothes from my teenage years which still fit and look nice (luckily I was a very square teenager). I'm a bit scared I'm going to turn into one of those crazy women who sallies forth to parties in 40 year old fashions.

It really varies. This month I have bought a trench coat from Banana Republic (should have been £120 but the shop had a promotion on so only cost £100), some smart black wedges from Dune (£70), a printed dress from Oliver Bonas (£60), three vest tops and a pair of jeans from New Look (£28) and a jumper from Aubin & Wills (£70 but I had a Selfridges voucher so only £45).

Which makes just over £300, but I won't buy anything else until Christmad, probably.

I am at some of the figures on here, but each to their own!
This autumn/winter I have bought 2 new pairs of jeans (not bought any for the last 2 years) a knitted tunic dress, and 2 pairs of leggings - all asda or sainsbo's.
I need a new pair of boots and PJs but that's it and DM is getting me the boots for Christmas
I do tend to pick up jumpers and tops in charityshops though, but that's negligable.
So I guess....£80-100 from Sept to the end of the year....and tbh I'm happy with that...I bought a lovely winter coat for £150 last year, so I'll spend it if I want/need something.

I was on a discussion earlier about how we spend sooo much on food shopping every month. Possibly the fact we only spend £50 pcm total on clothes/make up/haircuts for two adults and a toddler allows me to spend fecking heaps a little more on food and other groceries.

Out of curiosity those that have larger budgets, for me that is anything over £50 per month, do you spend more on better quality items or do you have huge wardrobes stuffed full of clothes?

I don't have a budget but it probably works out at about £250 a month or so.
But that sum doesn't buy me much! I buy a few things from charity shops, and a few basics like t-shirts from places like uniqlo - the rest goes on just a few more expensive things that I really love.

Used to be £300 pm when I worked... now a SAHM it's £75 and I'm a lot better at shopping now that I have to be more careful.

I Ebayed and charitied absolutely loads of clothes so I only have things I like in my wardrobe, which makes it easier to see where the gaps are iyswim. So this month it's boots.

I do regret not buying more investment-y pieces when I had the budget for it, I was a shopaholic and still am, but then I'd splurge in River Island or Topshop or whatever, often an impulse handbag or whatever, and now it all seems like such a waste. There's a Cos coat I am utterly coveting this year but it's £150. I wouldn't have had to think twice before - why the hell wasn't I shopping like the posters on here who bought less but better?! Sigh, back to Asda coats this year...

Dorset knob(love the name) when I look at my wardrobe it doesn't seem that I Have that much choice, I'm always thinking 'oh that bloody thing again' I must be a funny shape and can't get on with asda or new look jeans and as I don't have much time for shopping I now just stick to the shops I know I like stuff so oasis, next, warehouse. I never buy designer clothes as I would rather have more choice than quality. That said I do have things I've worn for the last ten yrs. I normally have a winter and summer wardrobe which means at least twice a year I get to wear stuff I'm not sick of. Over the past two months I've bought;

I would like a new coat and a pair of ankle boots but probably no new clothes until after xmas(unless I buy a few long sleeve t shirts when it gets colder) I have a clear out of my wardrobe every 6 months as I find there are things I buy because I have to ie new t shirt for holiday but then after the summer realise I never liked them so get rid of them. I have two double wardrobes(no draws so everything is hung up)

I splurge every few months probably circa £500. I would imagine it's around £2000 over the year, I think I contributed to the thread a couple of months ago but I can't remember what my total was now...

I said £80 before. I asked DP....and she worked out that I spend about £160 a month. she's so much worse, though
