I would like to thank whoever posted about the aspirin face mask a little while ago on a bargain beauty thread.
today i spent about 40p on some soluble aspirin. I dissolved about 5 in a bit of natural yoghurt and left on my face for 15 mins......its amazing
I honestly look about 10 yrs younger. HONESTLY!! my face is smoother than a babies bum. and it cost 40p!!!

anyway you must try it. I had to share the news that it actually works. Grin

Is is actually truly OK to put aspirin all over your face? It's not the modern day version of smearing lead paste over your face is it? Hmm Cause you do absorb stuff through your skin which is why you have to be careful with essential oils and stuff as it can get in your bloodstream.

For those that are wondering why this works, Asprin is a derivative of salicylic acid which is the active ingredient in most exfoliating products.

Oh no. You will be pleased. Smile They do last three or four days though. Maybe in the fridge? I've never tried. We're a half spanish house here so much coffee is drunk.

Just did a quick hand scrub with some grounds from my last cup of coffee, wow!

I'd no idea coffee was so fatty! It was espresso grounds so too fine to really scrub much but still my hands feel ever so soft and lovely Confused

It'd take me a couple of days of saving espresso grounds to have enough for my whole body, I fear the first grounds would be manky before I had enough. WIBU to buy some very cheap coffee for the cafetiere just so I can try it properly?

Oh, you said used. Grand. I'll save some up.

Oh, I'll try anything! Thanks for the tip.

Used grounds or fresh? I only have espresso, is that OK?

Please try brushig yourself down with coffee grounds in the shower. It's bloody messy but bloody fantastic. I keep putting it on these threads and o one ever tries it.

You just use ground coffee, used, as a body scrub and then was with your normal wash ... and then wash the shower but it is brilliant.

Mmm. My skin does feel lovey and fresh.

Here's another bizarre but effective beauty top tip while we're raiding our store cupboards:

Dark circle removing eye mask.

Dissolve one teaspoon of gelatine powder in a tiny bit of very hot water. Dab around the eyes and leave for at least 1/2 an hour. Rinse off with warm water.

It's fab and has a cumulative effect. There's a noticeable (but not massive)difference after the first time but dramatic improvements with regular use.

Gelatine sheets are also usable but more of a faff. Soak in cold water for 5 minutes, squeeze out most of the water. Microwave for 10 - 20 seconds stirring a couple of time.

OK - results in.

My skin tone is definitely more even and my skin feels smoother, but I don't look 10 minutes younger let alone 10 years Wink.

But my skin is such a mess at the moment I don't think anything would have given it an instant transformation. I have spent the last 4 years neglecting it badly and am just getting back into some kind of beauty routine.

Verdict: Worth a try, I will do it again. Thanks OP Smile

Meh, my skin does look a bit glowy but other than that no difference, no reduction in blocked pores that I can see. But, then, some of my pores look more open (despite using toner after washing it off) Hmm. I wonder if it's cleared some blocked pores I hadn't noticed.

My first try at the oil cleansing method had more of a wow factor, but this probably would have been more impressive if I hadn't been oil cleansing for a while already. That said, I will try it again, but then straight after oil cleansing. Might be able to get in and do its work better that way.

Maybe my skin was just fantastic before I started Grin It wasn't

Used 4 x 500mg aspirins, drop of hot water, teaspoon of honey. Left on +/- 1/2 hour. My skin is dry and this doesn't seem to have dried / upset it at all, which is nice.

Ok am going to give it a go. :o at Soluble disprin and people raiding random items out of medicine cupboard to slap on face. Although I did think i read that haemorrhoid cream is good for eyebags? Maybe?

Aspirin face mask now on face due to your recommendation OP. Will let you know how it goes.

This is a much cheaper Mumsnet-inspired action - my last one was the purchase of a Clarisonic (still waiting for miraculous transformation from that after 10 days or so).

Dunno, I think it might have other ingredients than just aspirin. What does it say?

I think I'd be concerned that it would bring me out in spots.

Look, will soluble dispirin do?

Nowt wrong with looking 40 if you are Wink

So, I've just slapped an aspirin and honey mask on. I'd read about a few times but haven't tried it before. Slightly nervous...

And what is wrong with being 40, hmm? Wink Good job I look 31 eh?

hi thought I should say it was 5 of the low dose aspirin (75 mg). the "mask was a bit watery and I only used about half of what i made. so even if all of it was absorbed dose wise it would be fine.( i think you can take 300mg once a day. there are some ppl though how are allergic to aspirin ( especially people with asthma) and i wouldnt use it is i wasnt able to take aspirin tablets
my skin before was really flaky and dull. now much smoother and glowing iyswim. should have taken before and after photos really.
if you google "aspirin face mask" there is lots of info about it. My plan is to do it about once a fortnight.

Nicotine patches, damn autocorrect

Report
Spagbolagain · 13/03/2012 08:29

Is it because it's an acid? So like AHA, it will take off top layer leaving fresher skin underneath?
Yes skin stops things going inside, but some things pass through. That's how I time patches and HRT work. So I think I want some reassurance that aspirin doesn't get absorbed, otherwise I wouldn't exceed the dose you would take internally
