Avon Skin so Soft

Loonytoonie · 17/07/2011 06:44

I've recently been told about the mozzie/midgie repellent proporties of the Avon moisturiser 'Skin So Soft'. Indeed, the reviews of the product certainly seem to support this. I ALWAYS get bitten, in the garden, abroad, Always. I'm going to buy some! Has anyone else heard of this? Is anyone else doing this?

I love the smell of the SSS green dry oil spray Grin reminds me of my days of clubbing!

Chandon - you want to know how does it smell? Hmmm, it smells kinda green and fresh, sort of a unisex smell like a suncream. Hope that helps!

got the green one for my DD going away on an adventure holiday, and had a conversation with my friend who used to be an avon lady and she said that you need to stick with the green one - she knows a couple of people who got the pink one and then wondered why they were still getting bitten. this is for scottish midges though, mozzies may be different.

Does the pink work too- fab!

Mel Gibson used it in braveheart apparently. Just placed my order after being reminded it's the green one I need.

The green one definately works, not sure about the pink! It's much better for the DCs than anything with DEET in too.

Agree with sparkles I use the pink one for this reason and had abit of a panic yesterday when my order came as it had green one instead, but it must be both colours so panic over!

Yep, weve used it on the horses for years too Grin

what sort of smell is it?

Another thumbs up from me too.

If its good enough for the Royal Marine Commandos and the Forestry Commission chaps then it's good enough for me.

The smell (the original in the greenish bottle) is not that bad really, although I didn't know you could use the pink one as well - hmm, must try that next time!

Add my mum to that list too, she swears but it!!

I think I'm the only one who likes the smell of it! Blush.
My husband knows a few marines and they swear by it too.

Works on midges really well...we have used it for years - we live in a forest and we get loads this time of year. The smell is really naff but otherwise it works. It leaves a very thin film of oil on your skin and the midges cant either land or bite through it (not sure which) it will leave your hair a bit greasy though.

I'm sure it is much better for kids than chemical sprays, though I could be deluded about that because it smells less chemical based.

My auntie uses it on her horses to stop them getting bitten by midges.

DP is Scottish and he reckons all the squaddies use it, a picture which always makes me smile!

They use it for midges like you get in Scotland though, not mozzies. You don't really get mozzies in Scotland. I have no idea if it works on mosquitoes too, only one way to find I guess!

just to add I have always bought the pink one (rather than the green) and it works too!

Excellent! I shall by some today before I go to France - got bitten over 250 times last time I was there and ended up seeing a Doctor [shocked] and was absolute hell to live with. Deet brings me out in a rash that's just as bad as the bites so I'm looking forward to giving this a go.

I use it and it really works.

It features occasionally in mountain biking mags because of its repellent properties but there are two fragrances - if I remember correctly, its the one in the green packaging that you want. Only drawback it that it absolutely stinks!

also taking vit B complex helps - somethin to do with making the blood less sweet smelling...

We were advised about this product about 15 years ago in Florida - and we thought it was some joke the locals play on tourists...
But it's true - it does seem to work and we've bought it ever since.
Good point made earlier though - make sure you buy the original stuff -they seem to have expanded the range to all sorts of different versions and scents.

I use it and although I'm not a fan of the scent, it works! I used it in Thailand and Malaysia with not one bite when normally I'm eaten alive!

Make sure you get the right one though - there's a few in the skin so soft range but it's the green one you need and it's on special offer at the moment too

We always use Avon Skin so soft, it's brilliant! I always get bitten so easily but never do when using this. My husband also uses it when playing rugby (to stop the midges!). Used it in Malaysia and it worked brilliantly, I didn't use it one day and we walked through some rainforest and I had horrific bites-I counted about 50 nasty bites on 1 leg (was up all night demented from itching!) so do have a comparison! Definitely recommend it and it smells nice and is very moisturising, both the lotion and the dry oil spray work!

It's brilliant, the S.A.S use it!

My mum used to buy it for this reason when we were kids 20 years ago. It is effective (although you'd want it to be cos it doesn't - or at least didn't- smell great).
