Capes - weird arm holes

Do capes always have arm holes in odd places that make it impossible to carry a handbag? Sort of at the front rather than sides iyswim

i like this store.americanapparel.co.uk/rsawn301.html?cid=934#i but the arm holes are a bit close together at the front. I normally loathe American Ap as I am not skinny or young or hip but I thought this was rather nice. If anyone has seen st like this anywhere else I'd love to know...

Don't you carry your handbag under the cape, rather than through the armholes? (Trying to remember wearing much hated cape in 1969.

Handbag-carrying is nigh-on impossible with a cape.

Ditto ponchos (as I discovered when they were briefly back in fashion a few years back).

I have a lovely cape, which I never wear because (a) it is impossible to carry a handbag, unless you go for a small cross-body bag worn underneath, and (b) it's too draughty and I always feel cold in it. It's one of those items that look great on the catwalk but don't work in RL unless you have an assistant to carry your bag and a chaufeur.

Agree with others. Even if the armholes were at the side its almost impossible to wear a handbag with a cape unless you carry one or have a small cross bag underneath.

Maybe you could wear your cape WITH your harem pants?

I suppose that it's just that a cape is the only thing that doesn't depress me when I try it on, such is the extent of my breastfeeding induced calorie consumption.
