As part of Disney’s long-term, global commitment to Healthy Living, Disney is launching Let’s Go week. They’d love to hear your top tips on how you get your whole family to be active together as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Disney say "the launch of Let’s Go week follows research which revealed the importance of doing activities as a family with over half of parents and children saying that being active with their family would make them want to be healthier. While the majority of children revealed they look to their families to inspire them to lead healthy and active lives. The research also revealed that time is the biggest barrier cited by parents and children preventing them from being more active as a family – whether that’s because of work, school or children’s busy schedules. Let’s Go week marks the beginning of a series of video tips that will run from 10th April to the summer, offering inspiration on quick and simple activities families can do together".

So how do you encourage your family to be active? What sort of things do you like to do together or do you encourage the kids to do or try? How do you keep them going with active things? Please share your top tips on this thread (and if possibly on social channels using #DisneyLetsGo) and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 bundle of goodies from the Disney Store (including a Belle Soft Toy, a Buzz Lightyear Talking 12'' Figure and a Elsa From Frozen Animator Doll and lots more!)

For more information on Disney’s Let’s Go week and how you can use Disney’s characters as inspiration to encourage your family to be active, see the video below:

#DisneyLetsGo I encourage the kids to walk to school on the days I'm not working, it definitely gets the steps in for me as I have to drop them off at 8.45am, then collect one at 11.30am and then back again at 3.15pm! I also sign her up for the after school clubs that her friends go to which makes exercise more fun when they do sports together.

We're active together - we cycle together (ds will go a long way - 20 miles or more- for an icecream), run, swim, and walk the dogs on the hills/woods etc. Its part of our life, and though dh and I will go further on our own, ds knows we need to be active everyday

Luckily we live near a nice park and by the sea so my son is always happy to take a walk to either and get some fresh air and exercise. We also walk to most places as we don't have a car and we try to cycle at weekends to local sights where we can picnic and enjoy eating in the sun.

I think the best way to encourage kids to be active is ultimately to make it fun and make it a regular thing so they don't get used to being cooped up indoors.

We have all joined the gym as a family and started doing activities such as swimming. Put a healthy balanced diet in place about 3 months ago.
This has been a massive and challenging change for us all getting out of bad habits and sticking to a routine.
But this had to be done to help my youngest daughter who suffers from a genetic condition and will put weight on quicker than an average kid.
We stay strong and focused for her and feel happier and healthier too Smile

Geocaching! It's a good 'reason' to get out of the house and the kids love going 'treasure hunting'!

We have always had him walking from being small and he loves being outside. We took him to find waterfalls in the brecon beacons when he was two. We are a two minute walk from.the beach. And last summer we could be at the beach as early as 7:30 in the morning. Now we do things like hunt for animals or totoro. Trampoline outside he loves. Races. Just reading him and seeing what would be best for him today. Scooter is good too.

Following on from OhHolyFuck's geocaching suggestion, Pokémon Go is another good option for a 'reason' to get out.

DD loves it mostly cause it's a rare occasion she gets her mitts on Mummy's phone

We're fortunate to have a large (unkempt and untidy) garden that the DC love to play out in - whether on the trampoline or looking for bugs. We're a short drive away from some National Parkland so our Sunday are often spent rambling there and flying kites. The DC are also very active with sports clubs at school - swimming, tennis, gymnastics so we encourage them to try new things, especially with their friends - it's a good prompt to get outdoors and be active.

Anything the children are interested in is what we go for, less screen time and more exercise is what we strive for! Cycling, Swimming and exploring our local forests, parks and farms.

We have a dog so he is great at getting the kids out and about.
We make circuits in the garden, a box to climb over, hoop to jump in, tunnel to crawl through, string to balance along..keeps them busy and moving :)
I set missions in the park like bring back three sticks, four daisies etc or we take a bucket and have a treasure hunt in the woods or countryside.
We have found an awesome stream to paddle in which is good fun.
When she's older I'd love to try geocaching.

Due to a disability, I am not very active myself. Some good ideas in this thread though.

We encourage our children to just give everything a try. They are 10 and 7 and have been Skiing, tried climbing walls, biking, swimming, they both do karate, one dances, we enjoy going for walks over the fields and we like fun activities such as I've skating and roller skating. We let them know that the more things they try the more likely they are to find an activity that they really love. They don't have to do any activities that they've tried and didn't enjoy, as long as they gave it a good go.

As such, both DC enjoy being active. Even if it's just going up to the local park for a kick-aboit or play on the slides and swings. Being active has become a normal part of their lives.

Joining in makes a real difference here - we often have a water fight in the summer, local children were amazed that the grown ups joined in and in the end we had around 25 children! I also am happy to get on the slide in the park,or jump on a swing. We're far from perfect but we give it a go!

We're pretty lucky that we live in an area with nice walks and also safe pavements etc for the school run. As I rarely drive the DC have got used to walking or scooting everywhere.
They both choose an active afterschool activity and as we live close to a river/ the sea swimming lessons are non negotiable. We always tell them that even pros have to practise and praise/ reward perseverance.
In holidays part of the daily rules are that they must play outside for an hour. They love their trampoline but equally have the added luxury of being close to parks, and a large green where they can safely ride their bikes.
It really is the access to safe, affordable and enjoyable physical pursuits that makes a huge difference.

We have to get out to run around everyday otherwise we all tend to go a bit stir crazy! Even just walking to the park will do. My best investment has been a pair of waterproof trousers for each child so we get out whatever the weather

DH is 'outdoor' active - loves walking, running, surfing, climbing. I'm more 'indoor' active - dancing, gymnastics, swimming so we play to our strengths and get the DC involved in it all.

We're lucky to have beaches and moorlands nearby so it's a free day out. We've started geocaching which gives our walks a bit more purpose for DD1. She loves finding the 'treasure' and DD2 (6 months) enjoys being outside.

We started young. Both girls went swimming regularly from 8 weeks old. Our 4 year old had a go at surfing last summer and is keen to do more this year and is going to have a go at climbing this summer too.

We spend time outdoors most days, even if the weather isn't great - waterproofs and wellies on and we go and jump in puddles.

We do lots of gymnastics and dance indoors. Kitchen parties are a favourite while I'm cooking or cleaning and we use the sofas to help with teaching gymnastics and make room for her to throw herself around!

Also I never worry about their clothes and wouldn't send them out in anything I would be upset about if it got destroyed. If they come home covered in mud, grass stains etc so be it. I'd rather they confidently explore, run and climb without worrying they are going to be told off for getting dirty.

Once in a while we totally ban gadgets and electronics for a day to all get outdoors together - whether its walking in the woods, playing pooh sticks, a trip to the park or building dens - it doesn't matter what - it is about getting out and moving more without the addiction to screentime that we all seem to suffer from at times!

My advice would be to ignore the initial moans and groans of not wanting to go and do it anyway - the kids always enjoy it even if they haven't wanted to join in to begin with!

Get a dog (or borrow one). Then you have to go for walks even if it's raining.

We love going on a Gruffalo hunt! We haven't seen one (yet!) but we have seen several signs that we have one nearby, much to the excitement of my LO!!
Now the warmer weather has started - we have been spending a lot more time in the garden & all the garden toys have come out! The trampoline has had a scrub down & we've all been on there!
A favourite game is to empty all a load of plastic balls onto the trampoline & then bounce like crazy without letting the balls touch you.. it's called (very imaginatively) 'Don't let the balls touch you!' :)

With 5 kids who enjoy different things its more about outdoor play than exercises, we play games like rounders (well when my 1&3yr olds aren't robbing the ball or bases) or football, water fights and trampolining fun. They are exercising without even knowing to them we are just having lots of fun as a family FootballSmile
