The team at Hobbycraft would like to hear about the Halloween arts and crafts activities you’ll be doing with your DCs this year.

Hobbycraft say “As parents ourselves we know what a challenge it can be to keep the kids entertained during the holidays and on a budget. So, for the sake of parents everywhere who are in need of inspiration, we’d love to know you’ll be making with the kids for Halloween”.

So, what crafty spooky Halloween projects will you be doing this year? Do your DCs dress up? And if they do, do you make their costumes? Maybe you paint their faces? Perhaps you bake Halloween treats together?
Whatever you and your DCs will be making this Halloween, Hobbycraft would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw, where three Mumsnetters will each receive a £100 Hobbycraft voucher.
Please note your comments may be included on Hobbycraft's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

we dressed up a bit: mum went the whole hog as a skeleton (for work); we made a spooky (!?) gingerbread house and hung up some cobwebby ghosts in the doorways. And played with the Halloween google doodle from 2013 all week.
I agree Halloween has become too gory too quick, it used to be more fun with myth & magic.

We did some pumpkin carving, and we made 'eyes' to hide in the bushes with holes cut in loo roles and glow sticks stuck behind. Also cut out black cat and witch silhouettes for the windows.

we have made pumpkin garlands - I HATE Halloween But my sister in living in the US and her children love it and send cards to my children and they seem really caught up in it this year. I'm an old cynic and just see it has money making!

We always carve a pumpkin, and as I can't persuade the kids to leave the house this afternoon, we may have a go at a blue and green swirl cake to take to the party we have been invited to.

I thought the spider lolipops that were on the video here were great but have struggled to find the black material necessary in town.

LO is little so we're going non-scary style Halloween. He's dressing up as a pumpkin with bought outfit and homemade crocheted hat - very cute!
We're going to colour in and cut out a friendly looking skeleton then link his bones back together with treasury tags so he dangles.
We've also got the Funny Bones book from the library and we're going on a Halloween themed nature trail at the local country park on Friday.

We DO Halloween every year without fail as it is some fun for us.
Pumpkins carved from Aldi, Costumes from Tesco, the goodies cupboard is cleared out for trick or treaters. House decorated from Poundland. As soon as it is dark we go to all out friends houses in our village. By 8 'o clock I have two tired boys high on a sugar rush excitedly looking at their loot before bedtime. As the years go on I will definitely be crafting with them and doing a Halloween themed dinner as well as anything I can think of. It's one of the highlights of the year.

I'm not that keen on Halloween, or rather the extravaganza it seems to have become, but a bit of pumpkin carving is good fun. We will also be decorating spooky cupcakes and making friends with paper spiders.

My middle daughter will be going to a local village disco and my eldest daughter will be taking my youngest daughter trick or treating (but only to pre arranged friends and family). We will also apple bob, carve a pumpkin and make some gruesome foods and cakes/biscuits.
