Sleep

This is the 3/4 month regression isn't it?

16 week old has decided that sleeping in his Moses basket is overrated. He's woken up every time I've tried to put him down the past 2 nights regardless of whether it's 10, 20, 30, 60mins of being held beforehand. Naps seem to be going the same way today so, before I start hallucinating with lack of sleep, would I be crazy to start sleep training?

Background is that he's been ill with a cold for two weeks - in hospital overnight last week - but prior to that was doing a pretty good first long stretch at night of about 4-5hrs. He had his injections yesterday although it was the night before he started waking as soon as he was put down. He does have quite a few naps in the sling as I have an older toddler to drop at nursery and take to various activities - he's not such a fan of the pram. Lastly we're about to go to the US for 2 weeks so a 5hr time difference isn't going to help matters.

He doesn't self-settle - I rock him off every time - so part of me wonders whether waiting until we are back and he's cold free would be best. However, I don't want to encourage bad habits and co-sleeping isn't a great option as I move around a lot in my sleep!

Any advice or suggestions most welcome!

So true. Babies are complete mysteries to me when it comes to sleep!! My 10 week old has been sleeping 8 hours a night for the last week but I know from bitter experience not to get excited about it since next week he has his jabs and that might effect sleep and then he'll probably go through the dreaded four month regression and so it goes on. I'm just enjoying sleep while I can!

So in answer to your question personally no I wouldn't sleep train because I find it stressful I would just try to maximise my own sleep as much as possible by going to bed very very early if someone else can have the baby in the evening? Also if my dd has a bad night I try and have a really long lie in on a Sunday morning while dh has the kids , just that one long lie in does help me a bit!

Other than that lots of coffee....?!

Good luck and hopefully it will just be another phase.

Here is my experience with babies and sleeping.
First 3 months are mayhem. Survival mode.
Then there's a 4 month sleep regression.
A 5 month sleep regression.
One at 6 and a half months, 7 months, 8 months.
Then another at 10 and 11 months.
Around their 1st birthday, they get sicker than they ever have been before and any sliver of a pattern you had going will be completely destroyed.
Then you start all over again, same as from birth.
Then teething wakes them.
At some point they sleep a bit longer and you think you have turned the corner.
Then they start waking again and you wonder if you drop the daytime naps.
You do and they are cross all day.....

Do you know what, its luck. Try training if you want but I think your baby is too young and I don't have the heart for it. Loads of babies are like yours.

The time goes by and your baby will sleep eventually, you will be in a shit heap for a long time though, its so hard!!

Maybe your baby hates the Moses basket, lots of babies do. Anyway, sorry for my pointless post, I just wanted to say you are not alone.

My first hated the Moses basket and I sent myself nearly round the twist trying to get him to sleep in it - utterly futile. When my second arrived I didn't even bother getting that bloody thing out of the storage. I snuggled and co- slept with her until she was ready to spend part, then all night in a sleepyhead that was right beside my bed.

Just accept your baby hates it and snuggle together until he's ready to sleep more independently. It's just not worth the aggro!

No real advice but just thought I'd show solidarity! We are going through the same thing. Dd2 hasn't slept well since around her 12 week jabs and she is 21 weeks now. I am the only suitable bed for her it seems. We are exhausted. I'm just hoping things improve when we start weaning next month...
