Help

I went for "Firewalls" etc (can't really remember what I altered), and now I'm having loads of problems with Mumsnet topics, and trying to locate "Sam on Boffs Island".

Gawd, I'm so fecking illiterate when it comes to computers, it's shamefull (one l or two?)

I tried everything suggested, but I'm still being regaled with Budget Car Rental, Vodaphone and LG Shine (whatever the feck that is) adverts.

Whenever I used to get on the bus I was always the one that the, erm, "interesting" people chose to sit next to .

And when I go into town I'm always the one accosted by the ladies wishing to sell me lucky heather.........

Ah well, thanks for trying.

try deleting one of the '127.0.0.1 adserver.adtech.de' inserts from hosts - don't think it will make a difference but you never know

don't forget to reboot!

hmm sounds like it - make sure, on your Security tab (in Internet Options) is set to medium.

Can't think why it's working for the others and not you

????

You might be going slow cos you've got loads of temporary files download this - ignore the paypal bit just go to "Version v1.39.502 (2,652KB)

  • Download from FileHippo.com

it's quite safe - when you've downloaded select run cleaner and it will get rid of loads of stuff clogging up your computer - may take a bit of time if it's chocker (remember to uncheck the 'autocomplete history' box first)

Just looked in my inernet options (from tools, at the top?) and pop-ups are blocked.

So presumably i don't get them and that's why I don't know what they are.

So the pesky ones are mn ones, no?

GythaOggsFrog · 03/05/2007 14:26

don't really know what a pop up is.....

The ads I get are at the top and down the right side, for Thompsons Marrakesh and Rhodes hotels, Financial Times, Lunchables, Alton Towers, erm, I try not to look at them, erm, used to get Bodens, The White Company

One thing I have noticed is that they are more high tech and bright than they used to be. They have moving images in them.

Gawd, I sound like such a luddite don't I?

Ohhhhh, do please help.

Here it is

This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

space.

Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

MamaG, I'm developing a bit of a habit regarding namechanging

This year I have mostly been, trillium, Trilby, and BonnieDarko (also a gallic frog of the lunar persuasion)
Plus have donned many other spur of the moment and doppleganging little numbers

yes

I've just gone through it all again and the bit I copied (didn't have an option to paste) into it was there, so I must have done it right, I've added it again for good measure and will now try rebooting again......

I did it, but nothings changed.

Still being assaulted by ads for Virgin and the Financial Times, and still taking ages to load.

Was hoping it might help speed up my totally abysmal dial-up speed of 16.8kbps

Am obviously totally doozie when it comes to technology.........
