Fillyjonk I have been listening to the Archers in a quite dedicated fashion for the past about 2 or 3 years and I still don't get who all the characters are, who they're related to, etc. I find some of the voices very difficult to distinguish.

I am finding some of the recent storylines quite annoying. I find Darrell very annoying and spineless. I don't like the way some storylines are signposted and then just disappear. Pip is really doing my head in. The only upside is that DS1 is 18 and sometimes catches parts of TA. The Pip storyline has meant that we've had some quite interesting discussions about responsibility/rights and parents/DC, etc.

She gets board and lodgings (and a car?) on the basis that she helps out on the farm. But she's done naff all of late and some lambs died because of her negligence

She deserves to have her arse kicked off the farm (and off TA because I can't bear her whining Oh mu-uuuuuuum/da-aaaaaaaad for a moment longer)

Filly - who do you get confused between? :o

Songbird · 23/04/2013 14:38

The usual problem - she ducked out of helping with the lambs, saying she had to cram in the library to prepare for this placement interview. As soon as she hung up from an understanding David?Ruth? she rang Spencer to say 'London here we come'. Little shit.

I missed the last part but didn't really get why David and Ruth were so worried about whether Pip was studying or going to the cinema. My parents hadn't a clue what I was up to while I was at uni. Thank God.

I have listened off and on for a few years, it's the only soap I even vaguely follow and it does make me laugh how, whenever there is a dramatic plot, the traditional listeners are all up in arms and OH MY GOD SOMETHING IS HAPPENING!

What I do find difficult with TA is pinning down all the characters. Being quite a visual person quite often I don't know who is speaking in several scenes which makes it difficult, especially for the sporadic listener who also listens while they are trying to do something else at the same time. I used to get loads of characters' voices mixed up as well which made it especially confusing.

Oh and I am seeing Des turning up and threatening Elona and the children. Darrell will run around like a chicken with it's head chopped off and hopefully Elona will knock both of them unconscious with a frying pan.

Looks like Pip might go and live elsewhere. Good riddance I say.

And as you can tell R4 we 'got' the story clearly !!!Grin clear as mud!

Yeah. That is so like your typical student's life.Hmm
That is why I never bothered with AmEx. The trouble is that the over-the-top, unbelievable storylines are now cropping up in TA, too, with alarming frequency.

The AmEx / Alice plot was the utterly implausible 'Chaz' one of her housemates during her Masters who was a terribly 'rah' student and also apparently a dodgy payday loans chap (funded by some terribly rich city types who had promised him a job as kneecapper in chief when he graduated).

Chaz offered to lend Chris the money to buy the business but before they could do it Chaz was beaten up. I think he also somewhere in the series developed a huge crush on Alice and when he decided he needed to get away from Captain Wonga his evil overlord, he bought them Eurostar tickets to run away together...

or something like that...

OK, guess I should've said 'relatively blameless' (in comparison with the dreadful Pip) Grin.

Don't know about the debt thing as I don't listen to AmEx.

Yes she caught up with some yuh type fraudster\drug dealer or something and 'loaned' him some money didn't she?

Report
EverybodysSootyEyed · 22/04/2013 15:37

Didn't Alice get into some sort of trouble which led to her and Chris ending up in debt?

Oh yes... or Debbie, for that matter, given she dropped out of Exeter in the second year. Adam stayed the course and got a 2.1 from Newcastle.

And because Amy was going there, wasn't it? Brarn was cross, but then private education didn't do a lot for Kate, did it?

Report
LondonMother · 22/04/2013 14:58

Alice got a 2.1 Can't remember what she got in her Master's, assuming we were told.

She did put her foot down about transferring from St Margaret's to Borchester FE (where Brian said the students probably didn't have opposable thumbs) because she couldn't do all the subjects she wanted at St Mag's. She got stellar A level grades, so yah boo to you, Brian!

Dunno about AmEx but Alice had her rebellious moment at sixth form. Didn't she put her foot down and refuse to carry on with her naice private school in favour of a State 6F college.

Alice wasn't blameless on 4Extra!

Report
PrincessFiorimonde · 22/04/2013 12:40

Alice was a blameless student though, I think. Didn't she get a first? Although much use it seems to be to her, as she has a job she hates (though I bet she gets given more interesting stuff now her boss knows she was offered another job). And isn't Daniel off to uni this autumn?

Racking my brains to think who might be TA's candidate for the next Leonardo da Vinci!

Thanks R4. IMO TA SW's love a wayward DC at school or college; in RL a lot of colleges and schools are not worth worrying about, after all Leonardo Da Vinci never stepped across the threshold of a school Grin Can you tell i'm a child of the 60s? There isn't a DC in HE in TA is there? Forgive all the acronyms!!

IIRC, HofA called the landline at Brookfield during the Easter hols and David picked up. I think that Pip disappeared upstairs to take the call (which we heard: buck up or you're out) but the Dopeys managed to work out that something was up. Tried to grill her so she fled to bf for the day, cos he would be more understanding.
David was in cross mode, Ruth in mumsy-hoping-for-the-best mode. And so it has continued - two extreme reactions, neither of which seem to help.

ppeatfruit · 22/04/2013 11:34

It's the actress who plays Pip she's terrible! You'd think she'd have improved by now.
I must have missed the call from her Head of Ag. Did we hear it? Or was it just referred to?
