Anyone bought the new ikea metod??

Had faktum in last house, loved it for budget we had the build quality extras etc were unrivalled
Wondered what new range is like, about to have loads of work done and budget is tight...

We bought a Metod kitchen in Spain, and were quite surprised when it was only released in the UK a few weeks later. But our head start means we've got one to show you. It's not especially different to Faktum in quality, but the increase in versatility is enormous, something we've really exploited.

There's a big fridge/freezer and a dishwasher in there, behind those first two leftmost panels, followed by the induction hob over the oven - with an extractor fan above behind another door - and we love our black Hallviken sink.

It's all IKEA, all Metod, Ringhult Brilliant White with Abedul (Birch) worktops, except for the tiles - Vives Town Blanco on the floor and Vives Essen Blanco at splashback height. Or, as it isn't really all white, 'fifty shades of grey' as we call it.

Can't tell you what it cost, as it was part of a more major refurb of our apartment here. Has to have been reasonable, though.

But whatever the kitchen cost, the view through the kitchen window is priceless :-)

Ha! I have just painted out the grey walls that I've had for the last 10 years. I must have been way ahead of my time with that one. Does that make me hipster that I got rid of something just as it becomes popular? Can't possibly be hipster in Clarks boots FFS

Nothing sad about sorting bin excitement! I'd LOVE everything to be as easily sortable as recycling in nice bins!

I made the shallow depth one take a sideways hanging rail - fits skirt hangers and kids clothes fine. Then we added some rationell fittings in which made life easier.

What have you made the Pax do that they should not? I got the new narrow Pax hanging rail and it fits in my wardrobe, I am not sure if they changed the Pax carcas or not.

I have an Abstrakt white and grey kitchen in boxes waiting for me to build it. Not feeling very motivated, but I do love love love the variety of interior fittings you can get. I know you supposedly can't make Metod stuff fit Faktum but I suspect it will be hackable. My Pax wardrobes do all sorts of stuff they shouldn't be able to...

Ha! Yes. I have hand made pine furniture in all the bedrooms.
I am such a 70s throw back! :)
I am very unsure about grey. I love black and white though. Monochrome. I do think you can go far wrong with it.
We have gone for a fairly standard white kitchen with integrated appliances as I don't want to look at it in 10 years time and think "gosh, that's so 2014!" :)
One of the main issues with the current kitchen is that it just doesn't work as a kitchen - appliances in odd places, silly cupboards I can't reach, radiator in a mad place...

I like the laxerby too.

I have a grey hall, Farrow and Ball Manor House grey, it is lovely. It will be very dated at some point when it is due to be redecorated and covered over then.

I agree get a kitchen you love, just bear in mind it will date for those who can't afford to replace when they come to sell.

We're going for the laxerby in white (no way am I brave enough for black!) in saying that I'll see what the designer says on Thursday, I'm nervous about the maintainance

A kitchen has got to be practical. Who cares if it dates, either you like something or you don't. I love shaker kitchens and granite worktops, and yes you definitely need a drainer.

The whole grey thing is odd, if you had said 10 years ago that everyone would be painting their walls grey you would have laughed at them. I love the grey thing but I wouldn't have it myself. All my walls are green so I'm bang off trend.

I agree Karen, but it does seem to be everywhere ATM! Really not fond of grey at all.
Change...we had howdens in our last kitchen. Wasn't impressed. Joiners and builders favour it because the carcasses come ready built. I much prefer the ikea stuff.
I have come full circle wrt kitchens tbh.
On our last house we did a Big extension and I thought "right, I am having the kitchen of my dreams" and I got it.
I hated it :(
Solid oak worktop looks amazing but it's so impractical. Ditto Belfast sink. They just don't keep the heat in at all and I am clumsy and smashed loads of stuff
The range cooker was a nightmare to clean and far too big for my needs.
I will always always have stainless still sinks and laminate in future.
Karen is right, the current trend for granite and grey/gloss will date the same way avocado bath suites did.

I think you are right about needing a drainer. I first read about the huge single bowl sinks on a USA kitchen forum, but they mostly have granite worktops while I have to settle for laminate.

We went to Ikea today to have a look at the new kitchens, and were rather shocked at how plasticky the veneers were. Also, the drawers just seemed flimsy.

A real shame, as the variety of fittings and cupboard widths and sheer "useful stuff" seems far more extensive than what we got in our Howdens plan and H are taking their sweet time about preparing our quote

Currently we have the fyndig bowl and drainer which is 60cms and I have to say IMO it's just not big enough :(
We have ordered the 1.5 bowl boholmen sink and drainer which is 80cms.
I love the idea of a single inset bowl with no drainer but the practicalities are such that I need a sink with a drainer (I think most people do tbh)
