Composite front door - anyone got one / had one fitted?

I'm after a composite front door. Have any of you got one? Do you like it?

Any recommendations for companies that do them?

I've just had a look at compositedoorshop.co.uk who seem extremely competetive in price, anyone used them?

Hi, has anyone used Anglian composite doors. I've read that quite a few have used rockdoor. Just wanted to see how it compares to Anglian. Was going along with them as they fit it too. Also doing a bay window as well as the roof for it.

IMO the locking system in the most important bit - it needs 5 point locks and then you need to use them!

Although the door is locked when it's closed in that you can't open it normally from outdoors, it is very easy to open using a screwdriver as a lever, unless properly locked with the key. Crazy % of house burglaries use this method of entry. When properly locked, they are among the most secure locks about.

I have had the same experience as OneMore and we don't live by the sea. I'm very happy with the quality of the door itself but it did unfortunately come with very poor quality fittings

I'm over in Ireland but its similar to the chartwell green. its lovely shade

Rockdoor's chartwell green is lovely.... Not sure about a supplier who does a darker green.

Nyancat, which company did you use? I'd like a sage green one but haven't found one yet.

we had one.fitted over the summer. dh is mad on security and the locking system appealed, I was more interested in look and hate white pvc door look. it's sage green in outside and white inside and it's beautiful if I do say so myself. everyone comments on it when.visiting for the first time.

My parents have a composite door from britelite - very sturdy and is very secure.

Because they are thicker they are better at keeping the cold out. They have had theirs for years and no problems at all. No warping or distorting.

I have read on the internet about some composite doors bowing and distorting - nobody had any problems with that?

I love ours. It is black on the outside and white inside. It cost just over 1k, fitted.

yes I have one and I really do like mine. The draught between the front room and the kitchen has gone and I agree it just feels a lot more secure.

I went with white on the inside to lighten the hallway and black on the outside and I think it looks very stylish (if I may say so myself! )

I commented on the other thread - have an anthracite grey jacobean utltimate Rockdoor. Love it. So stylish and keeps our hall wonderfully warm. Two friends now ordering one. Pricey but totally worth the money. We used Pete at Right Door which is based in Essex but we are SE London.

We have a composite front door. It's great. It looks good (we've even had people knocking to ask where we got it from), it feels very secure and it keeps the draughts out.

Only problem is that the letterbox has had to be replaced because we live so close to the sea that the salty air corroded the first one (and the same thing is happening again ) I think this would be an issue with any door that we had though.

I'm thinking of getting one for the back of the house when we get our extension done later this year, too.

We got ours from a local window company.

In defence of wooden doors... They will only swell and jam if they aren't properly finished and fitted in the first place. I've had many happy years with a wooden front door in a seriously exposed coastal location, but you need to make sure every surface is painted, and not so tight in the frame that the paint wears off the top and bottom surfaces.

Anyway, you've already decided, so you don't care about that. We've had a composite back door, from safestyle, for a couple of years. It was a compromise between energy efficiency (OH) and sympathetic styling (me), and I have to say, I'm pretty happy with it. It cost a fortune (best part of £1k - ouch!), but it is super strong, looks very similar to the defunct original back door, and has made a big difference to the temperature of the kitchen.

We've got a Rockdoor and are happy with it. Was a thread about 2-3 weeks ago and other people with Rockdoors posted on it. They are apparently stronger than other composite doors.

I'm not going for a wooden door as I had a hardwood door fitted seven years ago and it's been a bag o'shite. I live on a high Pennine hillside and the door has to withstand serious weather. Wood just swells horribly and jams shut in wet weather, or lets terrible draughts in.

....and what actually IS a 'composite' door in terms of construction? I've just confused myself by googling and reading that cheap composite doors are just plastic skin stuck to cheap timber.

What should I look for in a composite door? PigletJohn?
