fitted wardrobes - any recommendations?

Does anyone have any recent experience of B&Q fitted wardrobes, esp the fitting. The wall length is 4m, with possibly a corner unit.
Would prefer hinged rather then sliding doors although this might work out too expensive.
Any other recommendations? Not DIY-savvy enough to install sliding doors w/o professional help.

When i needed same thing i chose metro wardrobes ( they had all the colours i need) and Capital bedrooms were better on price, but i thinck they did not have the colour, so i have gone with Metro wardrobes

Lots of talk about Hammonds and how good they are - we had our bedroom done by a local shop who sell Hepplewhite which is part of Hammonds - lovely units still look good after years and really good service from shop without the pushy sales - think they have dealers all over the country - maybe look them up online

If you are near Wembley or Wembley park try Metro fitted wardrobes, not very cheap but cheaper then big brands

I am interested in the same thing, can anyone recommend me a custom made furniture company in west London? Can anyone tell me anything about Capital Bedrooms ? I asked them for a quote and the price seemed too low ... maybe the quality is poor too ?
Thanks!

We had an awful experience with Sharps. Forget those nice brochures and fancy ads. They have a low quality of service. Their designer (Jarm..owicz) didn't even bother to turn up on his appointment, and his manager never bothered to offer an explanation or apology.

We had Hammonds fitted wardrobes put in about seven years ago. They are excellent quality both inside and out. They are still looking like new - I would highly recommend them.

Meant to say to quotes we were getting from the usual palaces were 2/3 times more cos it's a pretty big wardrobe.

We chose a carpenter from Checkatrade. He was able to source a huge range and fitted a beautiful fitted wardrobe and dressing table in dd's room for (can't remember exact cost Confused) approx £1600.

Me and my DH gone with Clive Anderson Furniture, great value for money, family run business, answered all our questions on time and came with great ideas we also had Sharps and Hammonds for quotation which let done the sale tactics, what is more frustrating is that they give you a high price and after that discount after discount and try to convince you there and then to sign because other wise the offer will go, anyway we paid 2 years ago around £2600 for our wardrobe .

Others may like them but we had the WORST experience with Sharps. They promised the moon and then completely failed to deliver IMO. Installation was supposed to take two days, but we had to stare at a massive pile of lumber in our bedroom for 3 weeks (all this with a newborn baby), then had a carpenter filling out house with sawdust for a week, despite promises to the contrary. They promised to make use of every inch of space which for me was the most important thing (and was the reason that I was willing to spend such a staggering amount of money on a couple of wardrobes) as we have very little wardrobe space in our house. What we got was just bog standard layout and not intelligent design at all. One year on I am still fuming.

In fairness, the quality is outstanding and they look great. However it would bloody well want to be, considering what we paid.

To be honest Sharp quality is a cr@p for the money they are asking. They invest a lot of money in advertising, however can't provide you with the proper wardrobe. I bought the fitted wardrobe from Urban Wardrobes and the total price for 3 meters spray painted wardrobe was approximately £5K. Maybe it is not cheap, however the quality is outstanding and it took only 2 weeks to produce this wardrobe and install it. so this company is highly recommended.

Decided to get a sharps wardrobe. We paid £2,600 seemed a good deal with Hugh savings and extra % if ordered same day as reps visit.Surveyor measured up wrong so had to have new wood and doors made. Was told it would take just a day to do but It took 2 days and fitter was still finishing off at nearly 10pm at night. This ment carpet fitters had to be delayed. Slept on floor for 10 nights due to upheaval not good when just had knee surgery. Just to top it all off they damaged my stair bannisters when delivering wood but although I informed them, sent them pictures and sent them 3 quotations from reputable painters and decorators for repairs they have refused to pay anything and have sent a letter demanding the £260 outstanding. The cheapest quote was £343 for repairs. DISGUSTING SERVICE. Once they have your money they don't want to know you.

Thanks figgy, just been to IKEA and have to say, wow times have moved on when I wasn't looking (last time I went to IKEA it must have been 10+ years ago)
So, getting ideas at the moment, will ask Hammonds and Sharps for quotes, but will have to keep the cost down, somehow.

I think ours was about £2k from Hammonds, it was very beautiful on the inside and matched the walls perfectly - they were in the eaves and had the chimney to take into account. they listened to what we said and complied, however it did look fantastic.

In our current house (forever hopefully!!) we had a carpenter build the wardrobe (no wardrobes at all in the house!) in our spare room, it isn't nearly as nice as the hammonds one BUT I did use the internal bits from ikea. They are very good and it looks great on the inside. If it makes any difference we had lots of little doors that opened on the hammonds which made it far smoother, the current one is a sliding one and it doesn't look as nice Wink although it is gorgeous anyway!

Have heard great things about sharps, always worth it if you have funny shaped walls to get a pro to do it. funnily enough I think built in wardrobes are actually quite a personal thing and it is worth doing a bit of research, get these guys out to come and give you a quote AND some glossy pamphlets and see what you feel. Really good luck!

I think the modular is the free-standing, made some small chests of drawers in the past, have been OK, but really thinking fitted main wardrobes, chests can be free standing/modular but need to make sure the finish matches.
I will visit IKEA to see what you guys are raving about, they also do a double fitting for the curtains (layered net + curtain track) which is of interest.
Many thanks all.

That nice interior design man off the telly - Danie Clarke I think his name is (sprays the whole place white) he recommends that you get carcasses from Ikea with all the useful interior rails and drawers etc then get a local carpenter to fit them and produce some nice doors

I would agree that pax have great storage space and fittings but a word of warning; work out which interior fittings you want when you price it up, they can really hike the price up. Plus make sure you go to the shop to look at them, some of the finishes look really cheap.
